上天元太乙歌。 仙所撰。今自神应经表录于此。
The Divine Response Classic (Shenying Jing) was secretly transmitted by my former master. The Taiyi Tongxuan acupuncture method is the most efficacious. Every word in it is elegant and profound; learning it would make even ten thousand taels of gold seem light (implying the value of knowledge or the difficulty of mastery). I never forget its many verified effects.
Deficiency syndromes are suitable for tonification, while excess syndromes are suitable for sedation. When the Qi sensation is authentic, the root of the disease is severed. The arrival of Qi feels like the tail of a swinging dragon (describing a strong pulse or needle sensation); if Qi has not arrived, stop manipulating the needle and wait for Qi. Whenever using needle manipulation, one must first grasp the key principles.
Xi Hong explained the mysteries clearly: For Qi stagnation piercing the chest and breasts, seek the Taiyuan (LU-9) point. If the sensation does not arrive, needle the Lieque (LU-7) point. Lieque treats headache and hemi-cephalgia (one-sided or bilateral headache); heavily sedating Taiyuan yields no failure. For deafness due to Qi blockage, use the Yifeng (TE-17) point. For continuous wheezing, seek the Zusanli (ST-36) point. For hand spasm and unbearable dorsal foot pain, Hegu (LI-4) still requires sedating Taichong (LR-3). Quchi (LI-11) governs arm dysfunction. Needling Hegu requires careful operation. For heartache with hand tremors, take Shaohai (HT-3). To eradicate the root, needle Yinshi (ST-33). If deafness in both ears is caused by Cold Damage (Shanghan), Ear Gate (TE-21) and Hearing Meeting (GB-2) act swiftly like wind. For five types of elbow pain, needle Chize (LU-5). A single insertion into Lengyuan (SI-10) yields miraculous results. Shousanli (LI-10) and Zusanli (ST-36) can treat food stagnation masses and Qi-stagnation lumps. Jiutui (CV-15) alone treats five types of epilepsy. If Yongquan (KI-1) is needled, the person will not die. Generally, masses (Pi) are best treated with acupuncture. Acupoint selection always requires attentive searching. Press the mass with your hand; if there is no movement, needle towards the center at varying depths. For gastric accumulation, take Xuanji (CV-15). The profound efficacy of Zusanli (ST-36) is unknown to many. Yinlingquan (SP-9) governs chest fullness; needling Chengshan (BL-57) relates to dietary appropriateness (or improves diet-related symptoms). Using Daquan (BL-48) combined with Changqiang (GV-1) cures intestinal Qi pain instantly. Qichong (ST-30) requires skillful manipulation; surely the divine needle will be praised by people. Weizhong (BL-40) governs waist pain; when feet and knees swell, seek Zhiyin (BL-67). Dryness, dampness, wind-toxin, and stagnant Qi have such profound mysteries. For Qi-attacking waist pain preventing standing, Henggu (KI-12) and Dadu (SP-13) are suitable for emergency rescue. For bleeding attacks (blood stasis or hemorrhagic conditions), if interpretation is delayed, it may transform into Wind syndromes. Qihai (CV-6) specifically treats the Five Lin syndromes (five types of dysuria); tonifying Zusanli (ST-36) is as effective as a god. It treats both cold and heat conditions, eradicating stubborn turbid discharge diseases. Qimen (LR-14) governs Cold Damage cases; after seven days, if meridians have transferred and sweating has not occurred, only between the double ribs below the nipple, insert four fen deep; those with strong constitution find it easy. For cicada-like ringing in ears and waist feeling like breaking, the point clearly below the knee is Zusanli (ST-36). If you can tonify and sedate within Wuhui (CV-13), do not easily tell others. Who can regulate tooth-wind headache? Erjian (LI-2) cannot escape. Furthermore, Sanjian (LI-3) is a miraculous point; if treating shoulder and back wind-labor, inserting Hegu (LI-4) follows the flow of Qi circulation, guiding Qi to the Spleen meridian. For cold diseases, Hegu (LI-4) is still needed; only sedate Yinjiao (SP-6) on the foot. For whole back and spine pain, needle Jianjing (GB-21); failing to sedate Zusanli (ST-36) causes chest stuffiness. For pain in both arms and scapulae, one golden needle insertion is like a sage. For foot and knee pain, Weizhong (BL-40) is suitable; for accompanying spasms, apply the Fengzhen (sharp needle). If Yinlingquan (SP-9) is found, walking lightly and briskly becomes swift as flying. How difficult is it to treat waist and abdominal fullness? Needle Zusanli (ST-36), near the navel, and Chengshan (BL-57). Further perform tonification and sedation on Taichong (LR-3); finger numbness is relieved instantly. Headache with tendon spasm in the calf belly (gastrocnemius) also treats back carbuncles and groin abscesses. Another miraculous point is Yanglingquan (GB-34); for leg tendon spasms, it works miraculously. Intestinal pain is irrigated by Yinlingquan (SP-9); ear ringing is summoned by Tinghui (GB-2). Seek the miraculous point Taixi (KI-3); in medical practice, sedating excess is superior. For floating and sinking abdominal distension, seduate Shuifen (CV-9). For rapid breathing and coarse breath, sedate Zusanli (ST-36). Further needle Yinval (KI-10) in the knee; dribbling urination disappears completely. Huantiao (GB-30) removes thigh and leg wind; cold wind knee bi syndrome and malaria are similar. The best point to find accurately is Fengchi (GB-20); bilateral needling of Jianshi (PC-5) has divine power. For Cold Damage on day one, regulate Fengfu (GV-16). For Shaoyang on day two, take Fengchi (GB-20). On days three, five, or seven, if the disease has passed through meridians, following this acupuncture method ensures no failure. For heartache and vomiting, Shangwan (CV-13) is suitable; Fenglong (ST-40) points leave no doubt. Roundworms emerging from Cold Damage; golden needles should be used to reveal the clear doctor. For men's lateral masses (Pipi), take Shaoshang (LU-11); for women's blood and Qi disorders, Yinjiao (SP-6) is appropriate. For deficiency and night sweats, tonification is necessary; Weizhong (BL-40) is a miraculous point worth spreading. For stiff neck, swelling, pain, and difficulty bending/extending, accompanied by heavy body and waist-back paralysis, take Shugu (BL-65) and Zusanli (ST-36); teach you to smile instantly. For sprain and contusion of the spine making waist rotation difficult, and walking hard with heavy gait; wandering Qi throughout the body causing void floating, a single insertion into Fuliu (KI-7) makes people envious. For long-term waist pain and back labor, simply seek Zhongzhu (GB-25) for regulation. Use care when manipulating the needle; surely your insight will be high from now on. For unceasing waist and back pain connected to the navel, Shousanli (LI-10) in the hand is worthy of seeking. Before the divine needle comes out, urgently sedate; when Qi arrives, do not retain. Lower abdominal hardness is hardest to cure; Qihai (CV-6), Zhongji (CV-3), and Jianshi (PC-5) are suitable. Zusanli (ST-36) further requires clear tonification and sedation; needle insertion must not miss by a hair's breadth.
The Shangtian Yuanshi Taiyi Song was composed by an Immortal. It is now recorded here from the Shenying Jing.
