Yuji (LU10) treats rebellious Stomach Qi. (Ming Dynasty texts) Shuifen (CV9) treats stomach distension and irregular qi mechanism. (See Abdominal Pain.) Tongyun, for stomach deficiency causing distension and lack of appetite. Geshu (BL17) treats sudden pain in the epigastrium. (Tongyun seen in Vomiting.) Xiaguan, treats abdominal pain due to disharmony between the abdomen and stomach. (Ming Dynasty texts see Abdominal Hardness.) Shenshu (BL23) governs stomach cold causing distension. (Qianjin Fang sees excessive eating.) Weishu (BL21) treats cold in the stomach. (Tongyun seen in abdominal distension.) Shuifen (CV9) treats stomach deficiency causing distension. (See Edema.) Zusanli (ST36) treats cold in the stomach; distension and fullness of the heart and abdomen; insufficiency of Stomach Qi; aversion to the smell of food; borborygmus and abdominal pain; undigested food. Xinshu (BL15) treats weakness in the stomach; difficulty swallowing food. (Ming Dynasty texts below.) Taiyuan (LU9), (Qianjin Fang sees Heartache) treats rebellious Stomach Qi; spitting blood; treats stomach diseases and tonifies Stomach Qi. Weishu (BL21) moxibustion 100 zhuang treats inability to eat due to stomach cold; eating much but becoming thin; borborygmus and abdominal fullness; stomach distension and heat. Zusanli (ST36) moxibustion 30 zhuang treats regurgitation (Fanwei); vomiting immediately after eating; upward rushing of Qi. Moxa on both points one cun below the nipples. (Until recovery is achieved.) Also moxa twenty zhuang at one cun above the umbilicus. Also moxa three zhuang at a point slightly obliquely forward from three finger-widths below the medial malleolus. (Waitai Mi Yao says one finger-width, Qianyi.)
Whenever food and drink are not digested and come out again after entering the abdomen, first reduce Xiaguan, then reduce Zusanli. Zhangmen (LR13) governs undigested food coming out after entering the abdomen. (See Lack of Appetite.) Zhongting (CV14) and Zhongfu (LU1) govern cold in the diaphragm causing inability to swallow food; vomiting and regurgitation. They also govern retching, vomiting food that cannot be expelled. Zhongting (CV14) treats distension and fullness supporting the chest and hypochondrium; fullness under the heart. (Tongyun and Ming Dynasty texts same below.) Inability to eat, retching, vomiting food regurgitating. Zusanli (ST36) treats insufficiency of Stomach Qi; regurgitation (Fanwei). Weishu (BL21), (see inability to eat) treats vomiting food. Vomiting and retching with food not staying. Weiguan (CV12) moxibustion 100 zhuang. (Qianjin Fang) Vomiting and retching preventing food intake. Food eaten today vomited tomorrow. Moxa Geshu (BL17) 100 zhuang.
A person suffered from chronic regurgitation (Fanwei). I administered Zhenling Dan to him, and further instructed him to take Qiqi Tang, after which he could eat immediately. If combined with moxibustion, it would be even better. An old woman suffered from regurgitation (Fanwei), vomiting her diet by evening. Observing her Qi rotating around the umbilicus, I punctured Shuifen (CV9), Qihai (CV6), and two points on either side of the umbilicus. Upon returning home, she only moxibusted Shuifen (CV9) and Qihai (CV6) and was cured. Miraculous effect.
