Twenty-four Acupoints on the Left and Right of the Third Row of the Abdomen
Bu Rong (Incapacity) [ST19], two acupoints. Located 1.5 cun lateral to each side of You Men (Gate of Digestion). Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 5 fen depth. Wang Ming states: Located 1 cun lateral to each side of Shang Wan (Upper Elixir). Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. (Su Wen annotation: At the end of the fourth rib.)
The Su Wen states: Lateral to Jiu Wei (Turtle Tail), directly below the nipple at 3 cun. Five cun lateral to the Stomach Guan (Zhong Wan, Middle Elixir). From Bu Rong to Tai Yi, three cun lateral to the umbilicus. Hua Rou Men (Slippery Flesh Gate), Tian Shu (Heavenly Pivot), Wai Ling (Outer Ridge). Two cun below the umbilicus, three cun lateral to each side. Da Ju (Great Giant), Shui Dao (Water Path), Gui Lai (Return). These are all acupoints of the third row of the abdomen. The New Correction states: In the Jia Yi Jing, Tian Shu is 2 cun lateral to each side, consistent with other texts. Only this classic differs. If this were true, these points would not be below the nipple. If they must be below the nipple, then the description of "width of three cun" is correct.
Cheng Man (Receiving Fullness) [ST20], two acupoints. Located 1 cun below Bu Rong. Acupuncture: 3 fen depth. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Wang Ming states: 3 moxa cones. (Qian Jin Fang: 1.5 cun lateral to each side of Ju Que, Great Convergence.)
Liang Men (Beam Door) [ST21], two acupoints. Located 1 cun below Cheng Man. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 3 fen depth.
Guan Men (Gate Closing) [ST22], two acupoints. Located 1 cun below Liang Men. Acupuncture: 8 fen depth. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones.
Tai Yi (Supreme One) [ST23], two acupoints. Located 1 cun below Guan Men. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 8 fen depth.
Hua Rou Men (Slippery Flesh Gate) [ST24], two acupoints. Located 1 cun below Tai Yi. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 8 fen depth (1 cun below to Tian Shu).
Tian Shu (Heavenly Pivot) [ST25], two acupoints. Also known as Chang Xi (Long Stream) or Gu Men (Valve Gate). It is the Front-Mu point of the Large Intestine. Located 1.5 cun from Huang Shu (Bladder Deficiency), in the depression 2 cun lateral to each side of the umbilicus. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 5 fen depth. Retain needle for ten breaths. (Qian Jin Fang: Residence of the soul and spirit; acupuncture is contraindicated. Distance from the umbilicus is approximately 3 cun.)
Wai Ling (Outer Ridge) [ST26], two acupoints. Located 1 cun below Tian Shu. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 3 fen depth.
Da Ju (Great Giant) [ST27], two acupoints. Located 2 cun below Chang Xi (i.e., Tian Shu). Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 5 fen depth. (Chang Xi refers to Tian Shu. Qian Jin Fang: 1 cun below the umbilicus, 2 cun lateral to each side.)
Shui Dao (Water Path) [ST28], two acupoints. Located 3 cun below Da Ju. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 3.5 cun (Note: Text says "cun", likely a typo for depth measurement or specific technique, translated literally).
Gui Lai (Return) [ST29], two acupoints. Located 2 cun below Shui Dao. Moxibustion: 5 moxa cones. Acupuncture: 8 fen depth. (Wai Tai Mi Yao: 3 cun below Shui Dao. Current collation confirms Gui Lai is 2 cun below Shui Dao.)
Qi Chong (Qi Thriving) [ST30], also known as Qi Jie (Qi Street). Located below Gui Lai, 1 cun above the Shu Xi (inguinal region/femoral artery pulse). The arterial pulse is palpable in the depression. Acupuncture is contraindicated. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones leads to immediate cure. Moxa cone size like a large barley grain.
Wang Ming's subsequent text states: 5 moxa cones. Su Wen annotation states: Above the Shu Xi at both ends of the Heng Gu (pubic bone) below the umbilicus on the abdomen. Acupuncture: 3 fen depth. Qian Jin Fang states: 1 cun below Gui Lai.
The above twenty-six acupoints are located 3 cun lateral to the midline of the abdomen.
