Twenty Acupoints on the Left and Right of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian
Yongquan (KI 1). Element: Wood. Also known as Dichong (Earth Rush). Located in the depression at the center of the sole. When the foot is flexed and toes curled, it is found in the hollow. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Acupuncture: 0.5 cun deep. Do not cause bleeding.
Chunyu Yi stated: The wet nurse of King Qi of Hainan suffered from heat in the soles of her feet, panting, and chest fullness. I told her, "This is Heat Jue syndrome." It should be treated by needling the sole of the foot, and she would recover immediately. The *Mingtang* commentary states that moxibustion is inferior to acupuncture. If moxibustion is used, it may impair the patient's mobility.
The lower text states: Located in the depression at the center of the sole, at the junction with the white skin. Moxibustion: 3 cones. *Suwen* commentary states: Needle 0.3 cun deep. *Qianjin Fang · Liver Channel Volume* states: Located below the big toe, under the large tendon at the center of the sole.
(The *Records of the Grand Historian* records that the wet nurse of King Jibei had hot and stifled feet. Chunyu Yi said, "This is Heat Jue syndrome." Needled three points on each sole. Pressed the sites to prevent bleeding. The disease was cured. The cause was excessive drinking leading to severe intoxication.)
Rangu (KI 2). Element: Fire. Also known as Longyuan (Dragon Abyss). Located in the depression below the prominent bone anterior to the medial malleolus. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Acupuncture: 0.3 cun deep. Bleeding is contraindicated.
*Suwen* commentary states: Needle 0.3 cun deep.
Excessive bleeding from this point may induce immediate hunger and desire for food. *Qianjin Fang · Women's Prescriptions* states: Located one cun directly below the anterior aspect of the medial malleolus.
Taixi (KI 3). Element: Earth. Located in the depression where the arterial pulse beats above the calcaneus posterior to the medial malleolus. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Acupuncture: 0.3 cun deep.
Dazhong (KI 4). Located in the depression posterior to the heel, along the Chong Mai. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Acupuncture: 0.2 cun deep. Retain needle for seven breaths.
Shuiquan (KI 5). One cun below Taixi (KI 3). Located below the medial malleolus. Moxibustion: 5 cones. Acupuncture: 0.4 cun deep.
Zhaohai (KI 6). Source point of the Yin Qiao Mai. Located below the medial malleolus. Acupuncture: 0.3 cun deep. Moxibustion: 7 cones. (*Qianjin Fang* states: 0.4 cun below the medial malleolus.) *Mingtang Upper Text* states:
Yin Qiao (Extra Point). Located in the depression below the medial malleolus. Acupuncture: 0.3 cun deep. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Lower text states: Yin Qiao, two points. Located in the depression below the medial malleolus. Moxibustion: 3 cones. *Qianjin Fang* states: At a space below the medial malleolus sufficient to hold a fingernail.
*Mingtang Upper and Lower Classics* mention the Yin Qiao acupoint, but it is absent in the Bronze Man diagrams. Only Zhaohai (KI 6) exists, also located below the medial malleolus, identical to Yin Qiao, though the reason is unknown.
I have examined *Suwen · Qi Xue Lun*, which states that the Yin-Yang Qiao points are below the medial malleolus, called Zhaohai, generated by the Yin Qiao Mai. This aligns with the Zhaohai point on the Bronze Man. Thus, Yin Qiao is Zhaohai. Therefore, Yin Qiao is appended after Zhaohai.
Fuliu (KI 7). Element: Metal. Also known as Changyang. Also known as Fubai. Located in the depression of the arterial pulse two cun above the medial malleolus. Acupuncture: 0.3 cun deep. Retain needle for three breaths. Moxibustion: 5 cones. *Mingtang* states: 7 cones.
Jiaoxin (KI 8). Located two cun above the medial malleolus. Anterior to the Shaoyin channel, posterior to the Taiyin channel, between the tendons and bones anterior to the tibial crest. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Acupuncture: 0.4 cun deep. Retain needle for five breaths.
Lower text states: Two cun above the medial malleolus, in the depression between the tendons and bones posterior to the tibial crest. *Suwen · Qi Xue Lun* states: Two points horizontally above the malleolus. Commentary states: The point above the medial malleolus is Jiaoxin.
According to the commentary on *Suwen · Qi Fu Lun* regarding the Yin Qiao point: It refers to Jiaoxin. Located two cun above the medial malleolus, anterior to Shaoyin, posterior to Taiyin, between tendons and bones, belonging to Yin Qiao.
I suspect that Yin Qiao is Jiaoxin. However, the commentary on *Qi Xue Lun* regarding Yin-Yang Qiao states: The Yin Qiao point is below the medial malleolus, called Zhaohai, generated by Yin Qiao. Thus, Yin Qiao is Zhaohai, not Jiaoxin. Consequently, *Mingtang Lower Classic* lists Jiaoxin above the medial malleolus and Yin Qiao below it, differing in location. They are likely two distinct points. It is unclear why the *Suwen* commentaries contradict each other. Scholars should not trust one commentary while ignoring another.
Zhubin (KI 9). Located [missing value] fen above the medial malleolus. Moxibustion: 5 cones. Acupuncture: 0.3 cun deep. *Mingtang* states: Above the medial malleolus. Moxibustion: 3 cones.
Yingu (KI 10). Element: Water. Located behind the medial condyle of the tibia, beneath the large tendon and above the small tendon. Palpable upon pressure. Take the point with the knee flexed. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Acupuncture: 0.4 cun deep. Retain needle for seven breaths.
