(There are twenty-four acupoints on the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) along the midline of the abdomen.)
Huiyin (CV1, Meeting of Yin) is located between the two yin organs. Qugu (CV2, Bone Center) can be palpated in the depression at the pubic hairline. Zhongji (CV3, Central Pole) is taken four cun below the umbilicus; Guanyuan (CV4, Gate of Origin) is three cun below; Shimen (CV5, Stone Gate) and Qihai (CV6, Sea of Qi) are both one and a half cun below the umbilicus. Yinjiao (CV7, Yin Intersection) is discussed as being one cun below the umbilicus. The center of the umbilicus is called Shenque (CV8, Divine Portal). One cun above the umbilicus is the source of Shuifen (CV9, Water Separation). Xiawan (CV10, Lower Stomach), Jianli (CV11, Build Strength), Zhongwan (CV12, Middle Stomach), and Shangwan (CV13, Upper Stomach) are each separated by one cun, arranged in sequence. Juque (CV14, Great Palace) is six and a half cun above the umbilicus. Jiutui (CV15, Turtle Tail) is five fen below the xiphoid process (shield bone). Zhongting (CV16, Central Court) is taken one and a half cun below Danzhong (CV17, Chest Center). Danzhong is exactly between the two nipples. Starting one and a six-tenths cun above Danzhong is Yutang (CV18, Jade Hall); above that is Zigong (CV19, Purple Palace); above that is Huagai (CV20, Jade Canopy). (From Danzhong to Huagai, these four points are each one and a six-tenths cun away from Danzhong, totaling four and eight-tenths cun). Xuanji (CV21, Mysterious Pivot) is one and a six-tenths cun above Danzhong (the old saying of five and eight-tenths cun is incorrect). One and a six-tenths cun above Xuanji is Tantu (CV22, Heavenly Pit). Lianquan (CV23, Connecting Spring) converges at the tip of the hyoid bone under the chin. Chengjiang (CV24, Receiving Pool) is already established in the depression below the lower lip.
(There are twenty-eight acupoints on the Du Mai (Governing Vessel), starting from Changqiang (GV1, Long Strong) and following the back up to the head. This song recites from top to bottom, which is the descending order.)
Yinjiao (GV28, Gum Intersection) is inside the mouth on the inner side of the lips. Duiduan (GV27, Corner End) is exactly in the center of the lips. Shuigou (GV26, Water Ditch) is in the groove-like depression below the nose. Suliao (GV25, White Ridge) should be carefully observed towards the nasal tip. The distance between the anterior and posterior hairlines is one chi and two cun. Five fen above the hairline is Shenting (GV24, Spirit Courtyard). One cun above the hairline is Shangxing (GV23, Upper Star). Two cun above the hairline, in the depression, is Xinhui (GV22, Anterior Fontanelle). Qding (GV21, Anterior Summit) is three and a half cun above the hairline. Baihui (GV20, Hundred Meetings) is in the center of the vertex, known as the meeting of the three yangs. Houding (GV19, Posterior Summit), Qiangjian (GV18, Neck Junction), up to Naohu (GV17, Brain Door) are each measured at one and a half cun apart. (From Baihui to Naohu, the total is four and five-tenths cun). Fengfu (GV16, Wind Palace) is one cun above the posterior hairline. Yameng (GV15, Silent Gate) is hidden five fen above the hairline. There are twenty-one vertebrae in the neck and back, divided into three sections to estimate length. Each vertebral segment is one cun and four and one-tenth li high. The upper seven segments are connected thus. Dazhui (GV14, Great Vertebra) is above the first vertebra. Below the first vertebra is Taodao (GV13, Pathway of Tao). At the third vertebra down is Shenzhu (GV12, Spirit Pillar). At the fifth vertebra down is Shendao (GV11, Spirit Path), no need to doubt. Lingtai (GV10, Spirit Platform) is below the sixth vertebra; Zhiyang (GV9, Upward Yang) is above the seventh vertebra (The upper seven segments from Dazhui to here total nine cun, eight fen, and seven li). Jinsuo (GV8, Muscle Contraction) is at the ninth vertebra; Zhongshu (GV7, Central Pivot) is at the tenth vertebra. The eleventh vertebra is where Jizhong (GV6, Spine Center) is located. Below the thirteenth vertebra is Xuanshu (GV5, Mysterious Pivot). Mingmen (GV4, Life Gate) resides at the fourteenth vertebra, behind the umbilicus. (The middle seven segments are each one cun, six fen, and one-li high, totaling one chi, one cun, two fen, and seven li). Yangguan (GV3, Yang Pass) is at the sixteenth vertebra down. The twenty-first segment determines the waist-sacrum area; the end of the sacrococcygeal bone is Changqiang (GV1, Long Strong). (The lower seven segments are each one cun, two fen, and six-li high, totaling eight cun, eight fen, and two li).
(Above are the measurements for the acupoints of the fourteen meridians, derived from the works of Xu and Shi, the commentary by Ma Yuantai on the *Ling Shu: Meridian* chapter, Wang Kentang's *Jingluo Kao*, etc., and have now been corrected.)
