Below the Ministerial Fire, the Qi of Water succeeds it. Below the position of Water, the Qi of Earth succeeds it. Below the position of Earth, the Wind Qi succeeds it. Below the position of Wind, the Metal Qi succeeds it. Below the position of Metal, the Fire Qi succeeds it. Below the Sovereign Fire, the Yin Essence succeeds it. (The Six Qi each govern one specific season; those governing a specific season tend to be excessive. Therefore, each is succeeded by another to restrain its excess, preventing it from becoming hyperactive and harmful.) Hyperactivity causes harm; succession brings restraint. (When the Six Qi become hyperactive beyond their normal limits, disasters inevitably arise. The succeeding Qi arises from below to restrain it, ensuring it does not exceed proper bounds.) Restraint allows for transformation and generation. (This means that with proper restraint, there is no hyperactivity or harm, allowing for continuous transformation and generation. ○ The old text reads "Restraint generates transformation.") Externally, prosperity and decline are displayed. (Meaning that gains and losses are manifested.) Harm leads to decay and chaos; transformation and generation give rise to severe disease. (If there is only hyperactivity and harm, it inevitably leads to decay and chaos, and the source of transformation and generation thereby suffers severe illness.) If it is not in its proper position, it becomes pathogenic. (The annual movement does not meet with its native growth phase.) If it is in its proper position, it is correct/orthodox. (As mentioned later: Wood movement arriving at Mao.) Pathogenic factors lead to severe changes; orthodox factors lead to mild changes. Wood movement arriving at Mao (referring to Ding-Mao years). Fire movement arriving at Wu (referring to Wu-Wu years). Earth movement arriving at the four seasons (referring to Jia-Chen, Jia-Xu, Ji-Chou, Ji-Wei years). Metal movement arriving at You (referring to Yi-You years). Water movement arriving at Zi (referring to Bing-Zi years). This is called Sui Hui (Year Meeting), indicating balanced Qi. (The Heavenly Stem-derived Five Movements combine with the Earthly Branches ruling the year, forming Sui Hui. Balanced Qi implies that things grow and pulses respond without priority or delay.) In years of Earth movement, Taiyin (Great Yin) appears above (In Ji-Chou and Ji-Wei years, the Si Tian [Heavenly Ruler] Qi is Taiyin). In years of Fire movement, Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) [Wu-Yin, Wu-Shen years] or Shao Yin (Lesser Yin) [Wu-Zi, Wu-Wu years] appears above. In years of Metal movement, Yangming (Bright Yang) [Yi-Mao, Yi-You years] appears above. In years of Wood movement, Jueyin (Terminal Yin) [Ding-Si, Ding-Hai years] appears above. In years of Water movement, Taiyang (Great Yang) [Bing-Chen, Bing-Xu years] appears above. This is the meeting of Heaven and Qi, hence it is called Tian Fu (Heavenly符/Alignment). (Si Tian Qi aligns with the Movement Qi. ○ The aforementioned Ji-Chou, Ji-Wei, Wu-Wu, and Yi-You years are both Tian Fu and Sui Hui identical, also known as Tai Yi Tian Fu. This refers to what is said in Tian Yuan Ji Da Lun: "Three combinations govern together": one is Tian Hui [Heavenly Meeting], two is Sui Hui [Year Meeting], three is Yun Hui [Movement Meeting].)
