Huiyin (CV1, also known as Pingyi): Located between the anus and the scrotum/vulva. It is the origin of the Ren, Du, and Chong meridians. The Ren Meridian proceeds from here along the abdomen, the Du Meridian along the back, and the Chong Meridian along the distribution of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. (Moxibustion: 3 cones; Acupuncture is prohibited. Another school of thought states that for sudden death, needle 1 cun deep using tonification; for drowning victims, lift them upside down to drain water, then needle; if urine and feces are expelled, the patient revives.) Treats dampness in the genitalia and various diseases of the external genitalia.

Qugu (CV2): Located above Henggu (GB29), 1 cun below Zhongji (CV3), in the depression at the pubic hairline where arterial pulsation is palpable. It is the meeting point of the Ren Meridian and Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. (Acupuncture: 0.8 cun; Moxibustion: 7 cones.) Treats seminal emission due to deficiency-cold, lower abdominal distension and fullness, strangury, urinary retention, hernia, and leukorrhea (red and white discharge) in women.

Contraindicated in pregnancy; needling may cause abortion. If abortion does not occur, needling Kunlun (BL60) will induce abortion.) Treats accumulation of cold and various deficiency syndromes, colic in the lower abdomen, seminal emission and turbid urine, five types of strangury and seven types of hernia, leukorrhea, and amenorrhea in women.

Shimen (CV5, also known as Liji, Jinglu, Dantian, Mingmen): Located 2 cun below the umbilicus. It is the Front-Mu point of the Sanjiao (Triple Burner). (Acupuncture: 0.6 cun; Moxibustion: 14 cones. Treats hernia pain, dampness in the genitalia, Ben Tun rushing into the abdomen, vaginal itching, metrorrhagia, and leukorrhea in women.

Shenque (CV8, also known as Qishe): Located in the center of the umbilicus. (Acupuncture is strictly prohibited; if needled and an ulcer develops with urine leakage, it is fatal. Moxibustion only, up to 100 cones. Method: Fill the umbilicus with roasted salt, cover with a thick slice of fresh ginger, then place moxa cones on top. Sichuan pepper can be used instead of salt.) Treats edema, tympanites, borborygmus with diarrhea, wind-phlegm convulsions in infants, and rectal prolapse.

Shuifen (CV9, also known as Fengshui, Zhongshou): Located 1 cun above the umbilicus, at the lower opening of the Small Intestine. Here, fluids are separated into clear and turbid; clear fluids enter the Bladder, and turbid residues enter the Large Intestine. Hence the name "Water Fen." (Acupuncture: 0.8 cun. (Note: Jiutui is located 0.5 cun below the xiphoid process. *Jia Yi Jing* states that for individuals without a distinct xiphoid process, measure 1.5 cun down from the costal margin junction; this point corresponds to the xiphoid level. The distance from the xiphoid to the umbilicus totals 8 cun. The old text's "1 cun below the xiphoid" is erroneous.)

(Note: The measurement from Zhongting to Tiantu covers 7 acupoints totaling 9.6 cun, with each interval being 1.6 cun. *Tu Yi*'s claim that Huagai is 1 cun below Xuanji and Xuanji is 1 cun below Tiantu is incorrect.)

Tiantu (CV22, also known as Tian Qu, Yu Hu): Located 3 cun below the laryngeal prominence (Adam's apple), in the depression. It is the meeting point of the Yin Wei Mai and the Ren Meridian. (Acupuncture: 0.5 cun. Alternative method: Lower the head to locate the point; needle straight down without lowering the hand. Moxibustion: 3 cones; efficacy is inferior to needling.) The Du Meridian (Governing Vessel) originates at Changqiang (GV1) and travels along the back, governing all the Yang meridians (*Suwen: Gukong Lun* states: The Du Meridian originates from the central bone below the lower abdomen. In women, it connects to the Ting Kong [urethral/vaginal opening], hence it is said that the Chong, Ren, and Du meridians all originate at Huiyin.)
