Diagram of Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian Acupoints
Yongquan (KI-1, also known as Dizhong): Located in the depression at the center of the sole. When the toes are curled, it is found in the hollow anterior to the plantar surface. It is the Jing-Well point of the Kidney meridian, where the meridian qi emerges. For excess patterns, apply draining method. (Needle 0.3 cun; avoid bleeding; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.) Treats wind epilepsy, heat syncope, heart pain, throat obstruction, hernia, and Zang-Fu organ Qi rebellion (Ben Tun), hematuria with Qi-type pain.
Rangu (KI-2, also known as Longyuan, Rangu): Located in the depression anterior and inferior to the medial malleolus, below the prominent bone. It is the Ying-Spring point of the Kidney meridian, where the meridian qi flows. (Needle 0.3 cun; avoid bleeding; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.) Treats hemoptysis, throat obstruction, shortness of breath, irritability and fullness, cold hernia, warm malaria, dorsum pedis edema, flaccidity syndrome, cold limbs, seminal emission in men, and uterine prolapse in women.
Taixi (KI-3, also known as Lvxi): Located 0.5 cun posterior to the tip of the medial malleolus, in the depression of the arterial pulse above the calcaneus. It is the Shu-Stream point of the Kidney meridian, where the meridian qi pours. (Needle 0.3 cun; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.) Treats chronic malaria, cough and asthma, vomiting, frequent belching, toothache, swollen throat, yellow urine, Xiao-Di (wasting-thirst syndrome), and difficult defecation.
Dazhong (KI-4): Located in the middle of the heel, between the two tendons above the large bone. It is the Luo-Connecting point of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney meridian, diverging to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder meridian. (Needle 0.2 cun; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.) Treats chest distension, wheezing, difficult defecation, low back and spine pain, dry tongue, susceptibility to fright, dysphagia (food sticking).
Shuiquan (KI-5): Located inferior to the medial malleolus, 1 cun below Taixi (KI-3). It is the Xi-Cleft point of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney meridian. (Needle 0.4 cun; moxibustion 5 moxa cones.) Treats inability to see far, amenorrhea in women, abdominal pain, strangury, and uterine prolapse.
Zhaohai (KI-6): Located 0.4 cun inferior to the medial malleolus, in the depression slightly anterior to the high bone. There are tendons anterior and posterior, the ankle bone superiorly, and cartilage inferiorly, with the point centered. It is the source of the Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Heel Vessel). (Needle 0.3 cun; moxibustion 7 moxa cones.) Treats dry throat, vomiting, flaccidity of four limbs, lethargy, propensity to sorrow, chronic malaria, acute hernia, abdominal pain, strangury, uterine prolapse, and irregular menstruation.
Fuliu (KI-7, also known as Fubai, Changyang): Located 0.5 cun posterior to the medial malleolus. Measuring 2 cun upward from the ankle bone, the depression lateral to the bone is Fuliu; the depression lateral to the tendon is Jiaoxin. The two points are separated by only one tendon. It is the Jing-River point of the Kidney meridian, where the meridian qi travels. For deficiency patterns, apply tonifying method. (Needle 0.3 cun; moxibustion 5 moxa cones.) Treats dry tongue with salivation, flaccid and cold feet, borborygmus, edema, five types of strangury, night sweats, dental caries, and thready and fine pulse.
Jiaoxin (KI-8): Located 2 cun superior to the medial malleolus, anterior to the Shaoyin meridian and posterior to the Taiyin meridian, between the bone and tendon. From here, it runs obliquely outward and upward, passing Sanjinyao (SP-6) of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen meridian, following Zhubin (KI-9). It is the Xi-Cleft point of the Yin Qiao Mai. (Needle 0.4 cun; moxibustion 5 moxa cones.) Treats five types of strangury, hernia, metrorrhagia, and uterine prolapse.
Zhubin (KI-9): Located in the depression above the posterior aspect of the medial malleolus. It is the Xi-Cleft point of the Yin Wei Mai (Yin Linking Vessel). (Needle 0.3 cun; moxibustion 5 moxa cones.) Treats pediatric congenital hernia, epilepsy with tongue protrusion, vomiting of saliva and froth, and foot pain.
Yingu (KI-10): Located posterior to the medial condyle of the tibia, below the large tendon and above the small tendon. It can be felt upon pressure and is accessed by flexing the knee. It is the He-Sea point of the Kidney meridian, where the meridian qi enters and gathers. (Needle 0.4 cun; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.) Treats tongue deviation with salivation, abdominal fullness, pain along the medial thigh, and continuous leukorrhea in women.
Henggu (KI-11, also known as Qugu Duan, Xiaji): Located 1 cun below Dahe, 5 cun lateral to the umbilicus (at Huangshu), within the transverse bone of the pubic region, curved like an inverted moon. It is located 0.5 cun lateral to Qugu (CV-4) of the Conception Vessel, and is the intersection of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney meridian and the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel). (Moxibustion 3 moxa cones; contraindicated for needling.) Treats urinary retention and downward pulling pain of the genitalia. (Note: The lower tip of the hypogastrium should not be measured using general abdominal proportional Cun. From Chongmen (SP-12) of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen meridian to Qichong (ST-30) of the Foot-Yangming Stomach meridian is 1.5 cun; from Qichong (ST-30) to Henggu (KI-11) is 1.5 cun; from Henggu (KI-11) to Qugu (CV-4) of the Conception Vessel is 0.5 cun. These form three vertical lines on each side, totaling 3.5 cun for accurate proportional measurement. ○ From Henggu (KI-11) to Youmen (ST-15), there are 22 acupoints on both sides. *Tongren* and *Qianjin* state they are 1.5 cun from the midline. *Chengshi Dagcheng* divides them: Henggu to Huangshu are 1 cun from the midline; Shangqu to Youmen are 1.5 cun from the midline.
