For headache caused by Phlegm-Jue (syncope due to phlegm), moxibustion must be applied to the points on the head that provide relief. This is because phlegm condenses in the meridians, obstructing the smooth flow of Qi.
To treat syncope accompanied by vomiting of phlegm, for males use the left side and for females the right side. Wrap a string around the patient's elbow back to the starting point and cut it. Starting from the tip of the Dazhui (GV14) acupoint, run this string down along the spine. At the end of the string, apply fifty moxa cones.
Shi-Jue (corpse-like syncope) is also called sudden death. Needle the Renzhong (CV26) acupoint. Apply moxibustion to the Hegu (LI4) and Taichong (LR3) acupoints. Apply one hundred moxa cones each to the Zusanli (ST36), Jiexu (GB39), and Shenque (CV8) acupoints. If the pulse is faint and seems absent, moxa the Neishi (PC5) acupoint, needle the Fuliou (KI7) acupoint, and retain the needles for a long time; the effect is miraculous.
For syncope with muscle spasms in the four limbs, apply three or seven moxa cones each to the Neiting (ST44), Lieque (LU7), Xiaoyin (GB45), Zhiyin (BL67), and Chengshan (BL57) acupoints. Also apply moxibustion to the Hegu (LI4) and Taichong (LR3) acupoints. Additionally, if the tendons on the inner aspect are tense, apply one moxa cone to the tip of the medial malleolus; if the tendons on the outer aspect are tense, apply one moxa cone to the point above the tip of the lateral malleolus.
For those prone to fear and suffering from minor Qi-Jue, apply one hundred moxa cones each to the Zhangmen (LR13), Shaochong (HT9), Hegu (LI4), Taichong (LR3), and Qihai (CV6) acupoints.
For "Chuan Shi" (transmitting corpse/chronic wasting disease) and bone-steaming fever, apply moxibustion to the Feishu (BL13), Gaohuangshu (BL43), Sihua (EX-B1), and Yaoyan (EX-B2) acupoints.
For Kidney-Jue causing headache, tendon spasms, fright, and insomnia, apply moxibustion to the Guanyuan (CV4), Shenshu (BL23), Jiexu (GB39), Neiguan (PC6), and Danshu (BL18) acupoints.
For Zhong-E (sudden attack by evil qi), apply three or seven moxa cones to the Baihui (GV20) acupoint, an age-based number of cones to the Neishi (PC5) acupoint, seven cones to the Chengjiang (CV24) acupoint, seven cones to the Xinshu (BL15) acupoint, fifty cones to the Renzhong (CV26) acupoint, one cone to the Yinbai (SP1) acupoint, and three cones to the cross-shaped wrinkle below the scrotum. Among these points, applying one hundred cones to the Shenque (CV8) acupoint and seven cones to the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint is most effective.
In cases of drowning death, immediately remove the victim's clothes and place them prone on a horse's back to allow water to drain out. Then, apply one hundred moxa cones to the umbilicus (Shenque); this will revive them with miraculous effect.
In cases of hanging death, if there is slight warmth under the heart even after more than a day, revival is still possible. Slowly untie the rope and clothing, place the person in a warm area to lie down, wrap them tightly, and firmly pack the anus with material. One person should hold both shoulders and arms, pull the hair without letting go, while another person rubs the chest and shoulders to induce repeated flexion and extension. Two other people should sit on either side and blow air into both nostrils using bamboo tubes; the person will then revive.
For heatstroke nearing death, urgently apply seven moxa cones to each nipple.
Constipation resulting from deficiency of Middle Qi and disharmony of the Sanjiao (Triple Burner): make a cake from the flesh of Crotonis Fructus (Badou) and place it on the umbilicus, then apply three moxa cones.
For unceasing watery diarrhea, needle the Zhongwan (CV12) acupoint; the effect is miraculous.
For red and white dysentery, apply one hundred moxa cones to the umbilicus; the effect is miraculous.
For dysentery with lower abdominal pain, apply three moxa cones each to the Taiyangshu (EX-B3) and Pangguangshu (BL28) acupoints, one hundred cones to the Guanyuan (CV4) acupoint, and fourteen to one hundred cones to the Dantian acupoint (also known as Shimen CV5).
For cold dysentery with indigestion, apply an age-based number of cones to the Pishu (BL20) acupoint, fifty cones to the Tianshu (ST25) acupoint, three cones to the Weishu (BL21) acupoint, and one hundred cones to the umbilicus (Shenque CV8).
For chronic prolapse of the rectum that does not heal, apply an age-based number of cones to the umbilicus, three or seven cones to the Baihui (GV20) acupoint, and three cones to the Pangguangshu (BL28) acupoint.
For loose stools resembling duck feces, termed Tangxie (loose stool), needle the Zhongwan (CV12), Sanyinjiao (SP6), and Pishu (BL20) acupoints, applying three cones each, up to twenty-one cones in total.
