The Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian originates at the ulnar end of the little finger (Shaoze, SI 1), follows the ulnar border of the hand (above Qiangu, SI 2 before the metacarpophalangeal joint; Houxi, SI 3 after the metacarpophalangeal joint), ascends to the wrist (Wangu, SI 4 anterior to the wrist; Yanggu, SI 5 in the center of the wrist), emerges from the styloid process region, travels straight up along the ulnar border of the forearm bone, emerges between the two bones on the medial side of the elbow (Xiaohai, SI 8), ascends along the posterior lateral border of the humerus, emerges from the shoulder joint cleft, winds around the scapula, intersects at the shoulders, enters the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen), descends to connect with the Heart, follows the esophagus, passes through the diaphragm, reaches the Stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine. Its branch arises from the supraclavicular fossa, penetrates the neck, ascends to the cheek, reaches the outer canthus, and enters the ear; another branch diverges from the cheek, ascends to the nasal area, reaches the inner canthus, and obliquely connects with the zygomatic bone (the zygoma is the cheekbone; from here it intersects with the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian).
When pathological changes occur in this meridian, symptoms include sore throat, swelling of the mandible, inability to turn the head back, a sensation as if the shoulder is being pulled out, and a sensation as if the elbow is broken. This meridian primarily governs diseases related to body fluids, such as deafness, yellowing of the eyes, swelling of the cheeks and mandible, and pain along the posterior lateral aspect of the neck, shoulder, elbow, and arm. In excess conditions, the Renying pulse (carotid artery) beats twice as strongly as the Cunkou pulse (radial artery); in deficiency conditions, the Renying pulse beats weaker than the Cunkou pulse. (From *Ling Shu*) ○ At Wei hour (1:00 PM - 3:00 PM), qi and blood flow from Shaochong (PC 9) and intersect with Shaoze (SI 1), traveling up the elbow to terminate at Tinggong (SI 19). (From *Ru Men*)
