Insert the pointed end into the ear, and moxa-burn seven Zhu on the flat end; for severe cases, burn fourteen Zhu. Effect is felt when heat is perceived inside the ear (from *Bencao Gangmu*).
Acupuncture treatment for clear or turbid nasal discharge involves moxa-burning Shangxing (GV23, Upper Star) for fourteen Zhu. Do not prick the central vessel; otherwise, uncontrolled bleeding leads to death. If the central vessel is mistakenly pricked, cauterize with a heated copper chopstick, or apply Baicaoshuang (herbal ash mixed with vinegar) to the area; it will subside shortly. Many people do not recognize this condition, and delayed treatment results in death (from *Jisheng Fang*).
