Pain in the lower back and back is caused by deficiency of Kidney Qi, combined with exposure to wind during sitting or lying down, and contact with cold. Pain from Zang organ diseases remains at the location of the respective organs, while pain from Fu organ diseases moves without a fixed place. This condition is governed by the Bladder Meridian of Foot-Taiyang, as well as the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang and Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin. It is suitable to use Cang Moxibustion (moxibustion using a ceramic vessel). At each point, needle first, then apply seven applications of Cang Moxibustion per site; this yields miraculous effects.
For low back pain resulting in inability to flex or extend: Moxibustion on Shenshu (BL23), Weizhong (BL40), and one cun above the coccyx, seven moxa cones at each. Also, seven moxa cones at each site one cun to the left and right of the affected area. ○ Another prescription: Three moxa cones at each of the four locations at the head of the transverse crease of Qugu (CV2).
Place a bamboo stick against the patient's spinal column. Perform moxibustion on the bamboo stick, with the number of moxa cones corresponding to the patient's age (Sui Nian Zhuang). After moxibustion, hide the bamboo so the patient does not know.
For low back and spinal pain accompanied by turbid urine: Moxibustion on Zhangmen (LR13) for one hundred cones. Needle Bangle Shu (BL28), Shenshu (BL23), and Weizhong (BL40) in sequence. Moxibustion on Qihai (CV6) for one hundred cones.
For low back pain with abdominal borborygmus: Moxibustion on Weishu (BL21) according to the patient's age. Needle Dachangshu (BL25), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Taixi (KI3), and Taichong (LR3). Moxibustion on Shenque (CV8) for one hundred cones.
For low back pain in the elderly: Moxibustion on Mingmen (GV4) for three cones. Moxibustion on Shenshu (BL23) according to the patient's age.
For kyphosis of the waist and back: Moxibustion on Feishu (BL13) and Qimen (LR14) for twenty-one cones (three times seven). Moxibustion on Fengchi (GB20) for seven cones.
Another prescription: For protruding, floating, and high areas on both sides of the spine, deeply needle and moxibustiate five hundred cones, up to seven or eight hundred cones. If the disease subsides, it is not necessary to complete the full number.
For swelling and pain in the waist: Needle Kunlun (BL60), Weizhong (BL40), Taichong (LR3), Tongli (HT5), and Zhangmen (LR13).
All these ailments are caused by deficiency of Kidney Qi and external constriction by cold. All joints belong to the Gallbladder; all bones belong to the Kidney; the four extremities belong to the Spleen and Stomach.
For soreness in the legs, inability to flex or extend, and difficulty standing for long periods: Moxibustion on Yinqiao (KI6) for three cones. Needle Zhongwan (CV12). Five cones at the transverse crease heads of the two Qu Gu points. Two people should stand on either side of the patient, blowing out the moxa simultaneously to direct the heat into one location; otherwise, the disease will not be cured.
For cramps in the feet and legs that are unbearable: For internal tendon tension, moxibustiate the tip of the medial malleolus for seven cones. For external tendon tension, moxibustiate the tip of the lateral malleolus for seven cones. ○ Chengshan (BL57) is located in the depression between the bellies of the gastrocnemius muscle; moxibustiate fourteen cones (two times seven).
For redness and swelling of the medial and lateral malleoli of the feet that persist for a long time without suppuration or healing: Moxibustiate Qizhuma (EX-LE5) for seven cones. If there is no improvement, apply the method of He Jieshi; this yields miraculous effects.
For Hong Kong Foot (Tropical Swelling/Feet Qi): Needle Zhongwan (CV12). Moxibustiate Sanyinjiao (SP6). Do not eat until full after acupuncture and moxibustion. After seven days, needle again; this yields miraculous effects.
Another prescription: There must be nodules in the lower abdomen and groin area. Pierce through the nodule with a needle and moxibustiate the needle hole for twenty-one cones (three times seven); immediate effect.
For spasm and stiffness of tendons in the hands and feet: Pierce the tendons four or five times with a round-sharp needle. Then have someone strongly support the patient, extending limbs that are flexed and flexing limbs that are extended, until symptoms resolve; this yields miraculous effects.
For Crane Knee Wind (Genu Valgum/Arthritis with muscle wasting where the knee resembles a large ladle and the areas above and below are thin, accompanied by fever and pain): Needle Zhongwan (CV12), Weizhong (BL40), and Fengchi (GB20) simultaneously; this yields miraculous effects.
For pain in the sole of the foot: Needle Kunlun (BL60).
For cold pain in the bone marrow: Needle Dazhu (BL11), Juegu (GB39), Fuliou (KI7), Shenmai (BL62), Lidui (ST45), and Shenshu (BL23).
For unbearable coldness in the feet and legs: Press firmly with warm hands for a long time. If the cold penetrates to the hand, it indicates chronic cold. Moxibustiate Shenshu (BL23), Dazhu (BL11), Xia Sanli (EX-LE8), Juegu (GB39), Taichong (LR3), Taixi (KI3), and Yinqiao (KI6) for seven cones each, up to twenty-one cones (three times seven). ○ Alternatively, use moxibustion placed on a tile for warming.
If the skin feels warm but the patient complains of unbearable coldness, this is due to obstruction of Qi. Needle Shixuan (EX-UE11) and Baxie (EX-UE10); immediate effect. ○ The same applies if the whole body is affected.
For swelling and pain above the knees, with the body bent and unable to walk: Moxibustiate Yinlingquan (SP9) for seven cones up to forty-nine cones (seven times seven). Needle Zhongwan (CV12); this is invariably effective.
For pain in various joints: Needle Yinlingquan (SP9), Danshu (BL19), Fengchi (GB20), and Juegu (GB39).
For Bi Du (Inguinal Abscess/Lymphadenitis): Needle Taichong (LR3), Taixi (KI3), Zhaohai (KI6), and Pusan (BL60) simultaneously.
Another prescription: Write the name of the patient's father on the affected area with an ink pen. Within a few days, even without suppuration, it will heal immediately.
Another prescription: Pierce the nodule with a round needle and moxibustiate for twenty-one cones (three times seven); permanent cure.
For flaccidity of the four limbs, lethargy, and excessive sleepiness: Needle Pishu (BL20), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Zhangmen (LR13), and Zhaohai (KI6). Needle Zhongwan (CV12) and Jie Xi (ST41).
For cramps in the four limbs: Needle Yongquan (KI1), Weizhong (BL40), Juegu (GB39), Dazhu (BL11), Taichong (LR3), Hegu (LI4), and Xia Sanli (EX-LE8).
