Treats various Sha syndromes (heat-toxin disorders), Zhong'e syndrome (sudden attack by evil pathogens), the "Five Extinctions" of Huoluan (cholera-like disease with five signs of impending death), and various conditions characterized by sudden fainting and acute, violent symptoms.
Western Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis) and Fei Jin Bo (Gold Leaf, calcined) (each 4 fen); Meihua Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) and Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Yangzhizhu (Daphne odora Aiton) (each 2 qian); Shexiang Dangmenzi (Moschus) (5 fen); Zhusha (Cinnabaris) (6 fen); Zhu Yazaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus cum Spina) (1.5 qian); Dengxintan (Carbonis Junci) (2.5 qian).
Grind the above nine ingredients into a fine powder, store tightly in a porcelain bottle to prevent the loss of volatile aroma. Blow a small amount into the nose to induce sneezing. For critical cases nearing death, it may also be mixed with cool boiled water and administered orally in small quantities.
It also treats Yongju Fabei (carbuncles and back sores), as well as bites from snakes, scorpions, and centipedes; apply with wine to the affected area.
Note: Yangzhizhu, commonly known as Naoyanghua (Daphne odora), is acrid, warm, and highly toxic. It must not be used in decoctions; it is only suitable for inducing sneezing. If it enters the eyes, it causes visual impairment or blindness. Currently, Wolong Dan sold in markets uses this herb as the chief ingredient, removes Niu Huang and adds Chan Su (Toad Venom), reduces the amount of Dengxintan, and uses only trace amounts of Bingpian and Shexiang. Consequently, its efficacy is significantly diminished and unreliable. Those who wish to do good should prepare it themselves. (Note: There is currently a type of "foreign Borneol" derived from sublimated Camphor; it has a hot nature and must absolutely not be used.)
Another Prescription:
Xi Huang (Calculus Bovis) (6 fen); Meipian (Borneolum Syntheticum), Dangmenzi (Moschus), Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 qian); Yazao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus cum Spina), Yangzhizhu (Daphne odora Aiton) (each 2 qian); Dengxintan (Carbonis Junci) (1 liang).
Prepare according to the method described above; the indications are the same.
Indications are the same as above.
Zhusha (Cinnabaris) (3 liang); Ming Xionghuang (Realgar) and Pengsha (Borax) (each 1.8 liang); Meibing (Borneolum Syntheticum), Dangmenzi (Moschus) (each 9 qian); Huoxiao (Natrii Nitras) (6 qian); Bibai (Piperis Longi Fructus), Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis) (each 3 qian).
These can be placed in the umbilicus, leading to immediate recovery. Whenever entering cities during the summer months, applying a small amount to the nostrils can prevent exposure to foul and noxious airs.
Treats Fan Sha Choudou (foreign Sha toxin-poison), characterized by abdominal pain like twisting, Qi blockage, and coma with spirit nearly extinguished.
Dengxintan (Carbonis Junci) (1 liang); Yangzhizhu (Daphne odora Aiton) (3 qian); Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Du Chan Su (Bufonis Venenum), Yazao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus cum Spina) (each 2 qian); Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis), Meipian (Borneolum Syntheticum), Dangmenzi (Moschus) (each 1 qian).
Grind the above eight ingredients into a fine powder, pack tightly in a porcelain bottle to prevent leakage of aroma. Blow a small amount into the nose; life will return upon sneezing.
