Huo Luan (cholera-like acute disease) is an emergency condition, yet there were no specialized ancient texts on it; occasional mentions were vague and incomplete. Consequently, clinicians suffered from the lack of established protocols to follow. Mr. Wang Mengyin of Haichang, having previously traveled to Yuhuan, had authored a specialized treatise to benefit the world. Yang Suyuan, the magistrate (Da Yin) of Dingzhou, reprinted it in Jiangxi, stating that its principles were clear and its language expressive, accurately elucidating the pathogenesis as distinctly as black and white cannot be confused. However, given the turmoil within the country at that time, whether the printing blocks survived remained unknown. In the summer of the Renxu year, Huo Luan prevailed in this region, making it difficult to obtain Mr. Wang's book. When Mr. Wang came here to flee the chaos, he felt deep compassion for the situation and generously undertook to collate and revise the original manuscript. The language was made more fluent, and the methods more detailed, which was then printed to seek the opinion of gentlemen who hold compassion in their hearts.
In the fifth month of the summer of the second year of the Tongzhi reign, Chen Heng of Zhenhai respectfully wrote this postscript at Chongben Hall in Shanghai.
