After processing, it should be pounded into fine powder. Place it in a basin of water and stir until the water becomes turbid; discard the floating material, which constitutes the fibrous strands (jin, 筋) of Poria. If mistakenly ingested, it may cause black spots to appear on the pupil and cornea, potentially leading to blindness. This point must be remembered with utmost care.

Red Pine Resin resembles amber but is turbid, overly brittle, and has coarse texture. Water Amber is mostly non-red, light yellow in color, and often has rough, wrinkled skin. Stone Amber is heavy like stone, yellow in color, and unsuitable for medicinal use. Flower Amber has a grain pattern similar to that of new Masson pine heartwood, with alternating red and yellow stripes. Object-Image Amber contains visible biological forms within, giving it a mystical quality. [Missing Character] Amber is considered the leader among all ambers, hence its name. Succinum resembles blood color; if rubbed on cloth and capable of attracting mustard seeds, it is authentic.
For medicinal preparation, mix powder of Platycladi Semen (Ce Bai Zi, 侧柏子) with water and spread it in a porcelain pot. Place the Succinum within the powder mixture. Process over heat from Si hour (9–11 AM) to Shen hour (3–5 PM); distinct luminous phenomena will appear. Remove, pound into powder, sieve, and use.

Lei Gong said: For the use of [Subject Missing], shave off the coarse outer skin with a knife. After processing, soak in raw honey water for half a day. Drain, dry in the sun, coat with honey, and roast using alternating mild and strong fire until the honey is fully absorbed.
For every five liang of material processed, use three liang of honey.
Lei Gong said: For the use of [Subject Missing], after collection, soak in water for three days. Stir vigorously in the water, then allow to settle; discard the floating portion. Dry in the sun, then soak in wine for one shichen (one fu shi, approx. 2 hours). After processing, steam from Si hour (9–11 AM) to Hai hour (9–11 PM). Remove, bake until dry, and use.

For medicinal use, peel the bark and dry it in the shade.
