(Zhaizi) Excessive consumption damages the teeth and tendons. It is specifically used to treat spasms of the tendons caused by Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea); decocting it in water for drinking is effective. Its efficacy is similar to that of Mugua (Chaenomeles fruit), but the smaller variety is inferior. In the past, Kong Anguo did not recognize it and mistakenly believed it was a type of pear unsuitable for storage. Current observation shows its shape is small, resembling a pear. In the Jiangnan region, it is consumed as a fruit; eating it all at once is inadvisable due to its sour and astringent taste, which offers no benefit. It is commonly referred to as "Li" (Pear). [Vol. Jia]
(1) It primarily unblocks the qi flow in the nose and ears, and tonifies deficiency and exhaustion. [Xin. Jia]
(2) According to strict records: Dried Persimmon thickens the stomach and intestines, warms the Middle Jiao, strengthens Spleen and Stomach Qi, and resolves old blood stasis. [Xin. Jia]
(3) Additionally, Red Persimmon: Tonifies Qi, and reconnects the Qi of the meridians. [Jia]
(4) Additionally, Black Persimmon: Astringes the Lower Jiao, strengthens Spleen and Stomach Qi, and resolves old blood stasis. Made into cakes and pastries for children to eat, it treats Autumn Dysentery. [Jia]
(5) Additionally, grind the persimmon; first cook porridge until nearly done, then add the persimmon. Boil two or three more times, and feed the child until full. It is also beneficial for the nursing mother to consume. [Jia]
(6) Additionally, take 2 jin of dried persimmon, 1 jin of su (clarified butter/ghee), and half a sheng of honey. First mix the su and honey, melt them in a pan. Add the persimmon, boil for over ten cycles, and store in a non-leaky vessel. Take three to five pieces on an empty stomach daily. It treats Spleen deficiency in men and women, characterized by a thin abdomen and indigestion. It also treats dark spots on the face; long-term consumption yields excellent results. [Jia]
(Taro)
(1) It primarily relaxes the stomach and intestines, removes dead tissue, and makes flesh lustrous and glossy. [Vol. Xin]
(2) Those that are white and clean have no flavor; purple ones are of good quality but break Qi. Decocting in water and drinking helps stop thirst. Harvest after the tenth month, dry in the sun. Steaming and consuming in winter prevents disease onset; they should not be consumed at other times. [Vol. Jia]
(3) Additionally, when boiled with Crucian Carp or Common Carp to make soup, it strongly directs Qi downward and tonifies the Middle Jiao (but long-term consumption causes weakness and lack of energy). This item is merely initially fatty. [Vol. Jia]
(4) Additionally, boiling raw taro juice can wash dirt and grease from clothes, making them white as jade. [Vol. Jia]
(5) Additionally, bathing in the decoction removes floating Qi from the body. After bathing, avoid wind exposure for about half a day. [Zheng. Jia]
