Whenever the ears, nose, eyes, and mouth bleed simultaneously, this condition is termed "Upper Deficiency and Lower Exhaustion" (Shang Xu Xia Jie), and death may occur within moments, leaving no time for medication. In such emergencies, spray cold water onto the face several times, or have a woman quickly part her hair and sprinkle water on the scalp; for men without long hair to part, soak several layers of coarse paper in cold vinegar and apply it to the fontanelle (Xinmen, the anterior fontanelle at the top of the head), which will stop the bleeding. Alternatively, use the "First Formula for Epistaxis" from the Nasal section, which stops bleeding instantly with miraculous effect. Subsequently, administer Bu Xue Tang (Blood-Nourishing Decoction): decoct Huangqi (Astragali Radix) 1 liang and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 5 qian into a concentrated liquid, add Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) 5 fen (ground into juice) and Tongbian (Child's Urine) 1 zhan, mix and ingest. The blood will naturally return to its vessels. With further regulation and care, most patients will survive.
For hematemesis due to labor injury, refer to the "Labor Injury Hematemesis Section." Heat an old urine pot over fire and inhale the fumes through the nose; this stops bleeding instantly with miraculous effect, having been tested repeatedly with success. Or treat according to the "First Formula for Epistaxis" in the Nasal section, which is even more effective.
Another formula: Crush fresh Chinese chive (Jiucai, Allii Tuberosi Bulbus) to extract natural juice, drink half a bowl, and effects are seen immediately.
Another formula: Decoct Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), each 1 liang, and take orally; also effective.
Another formula: For those whose excessive alcohol consumption and sexual indulgence cause bleeding from the mouth and nose like a gushing spring, use Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba) charred and ground into powder, mixed with Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) decoction, taken as 2 qian per dose; recovery follows.
Treat according to the various formulas above for oral and nasal bleeding.
Use Liuwei Tang (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Decoction) plus Gusuibu (Drynariae Rhizoma) 1 qian for all cases; drinking it leads to immediate recovery. This is because both the umbilicus and teeth are locations governed by the Kidney Meridian, and bleeding here represents the outward flare-up of Kidney Fire. Liuwei Tang nourishes Kidney Water, thereby extinguishing the fire. Gusuibu specifically stops bleeding from orifices and repairs leaks in bone structure, making it suitable for addition. Alternatively, the "First Formula for Epistaxis" from the Nasal section is also effective.
Apply a thick slice of lean pork to the affected area to stop bleeding instantly, with miraculous effect. Pig skin can also be used.
Another formula: Take paper from the lid of a wine jar, tear it into extremely fine fragments resembling catkins, spread it over the bleeding site, and press down to stop bleeding.
Another formula: Burn toilet paper to ash, wait until cool, and apply to the wound; this also stops bleeding.
Another formula: Stir-fry Chanshanjia (Manis Squama, Pangolin Scales), grind into fine powder, and apply to the site; bind tightly with cloth to stop bleeding, then take several doses of Bu Xue Tang (see above) for complete recovery. This method is also highly effective for individuals suffering from continuous seepage of oil-like fluid from pores on the back of the hand.
