Decoct mugwort leaves (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) to make a decoction and drink it as tea.

Rinse the mouth with mint (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) infusion; this also treats halitosis. Furthermore, for heat-toxins from various diseases affecting the fetus, first wipe the area with cloth dipped in well water, then apply ginger juice (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Sucus) frequently.

If bleeding occurs on the tongue and does not stop, it is incurable. Take three qian of calcined Chinese gall (Galla Chinensis), three qian of calcined dried plum (Mume Fructus Core Exsiccatus), and three fen of green chaff (Furfur Viridis); grind them together into a fine powder. Rinse the mouth frequently with sugar vinegar.

Another prescription: Mix equal parts of soot from hundred-herb fires (Baicaoshuang) and sea salt (Halitum) into a powder. Take with clear well water (Jinghua Shui).

Grind mirabilite (Natrii Sulfas) and alum (Alumen) in equal parts into a fine powder. Apply and sprinkle onto the tongue; it will heal immediately.

Dip paper thoroughly in castor oil (Ricini Oleum), roll it into a wick, burn it to produce smoke, and fumigate the affected area; the tongue will retract immediately.

Frequently sprinkle Polygonum bistorta powder (Polygoni Bistortae Rhizoma et Radix) onto the tongue. If caused by cold, add an equal amount of dried ginger powder (Zingiberis Rhizoma Siccum).

Grind borneol (Borneolum Syntheticum) into a fine powder and apply it; the tongue will retract. Take four liang of strychnos seeds (Strychni Semen, scraped clean and sliced), four qian of Coptis chinensis rhizome (Coptidis Rhizoma), and two bowls of water; decoct until one bowl remains, to [soak/clean] the tongue.

This condition is due to residual toxins in the intestines and stomach. Take two qian of raw rhubarb (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), two qian of trichosanthes root (Trichosanthis Radix), and five fen of red rouge (Hong Yanzhi, a medicinal name). Soak these three medicines in hemp [oil/solution].

Boil a handful of mosla herb (Moslae Herba) in water to make a strong decoction and drink it; this is effective for treating restlessness and heat in the heart. The method of frying sophora flower (Sophorae Flos), grinding it into powder, and sprinkling it on the tongue is the most effective. Additionally, for a stiff tongue with bleeding, rinse with water decocted from Equisetum ramosissimum (Equiseti Rami Decoctum).

Grind raw Polygonum bistorta powder (Polygoni Bistortae Rhizoma et Radix) finely and rub it on the tongue, or use sophora flower powder (Sophorae Flos); both are extremely effective. Alternatively, take one liang of Ophiopogon japonicus tuber (Ophiopogonis Tuber, heart removed), five fen of Coptis chinensis rhizome (Coptidis Rhizoma), three qian of Forsythia suspensa fruit (Forsythiae Fructus), and twenty stalks of rush pith (Junci Medulla). Decoct in water and take orally; it will heal.

Take one bowl of aged vinegar (Chen Cu) and one liang of Trogopterus dung (Trogopterori Faeces). Decoct in a copper spoon until it boils three times. Remove from fire, stir evenly with bamboo chopsticks, and let cool. Frequently hold a small amount of the vinegar in the mouth. When saliva and foam fill the mouth, spit it out; do not swallow. A person from Lili Town, Wujiang County, used this prescription to treat macroglossia (chong she), with immediate effect.
