Dizziness and vertigo, although seemingly minor ailments, often serve as the precursor to major diseases. Eyes may suddenly become blurred, leading to a sudden collapse that is incurable. Early treatment is advisable. Use Taishen (Codonopsis Radix) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), each 3 qian; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), each 1 liang; Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 5 qian; Zhurou (Corni Fructus) 5 qian; Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) 1 qian; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 5 fen. Decoct in water and take orally. Several doses will show efficacy. This formula is named Fangxuan Tang (Prevention of Dizziness Decoction). It specifically treats deficiency of Qi and Blood, rather than directly suppressing dizziness of the head and eyes. When Qi and Blood are sufficient, Yin and Yang harmonize; when Yin and Yang harmonize, pathogenic fire dissipates, and dizziness and vertigo naturally do not occur. Taking several more doses yields boundless benefits. Do not discard it simply because one or two doses do not immediately produce results.
Another prescription: Take two Baiguo (Ginkgo Semen), remove the shell, crush them raw, and mix with boiling water for oral administration on an empty stomach. For severe cases, five doses bring relief; it is even more effective for the elderly.
Take the tender hearts of fresh Xiancao (Acori Tatarinowii Herba), dry them in the shade, and grind into powder. Use 1 qian per dose, mixed with wine for oral administration. The effect is miraculous. This substance can unblock the vertex (Baihui GV20), hence it acts quickly.

Decoct in water and take orally.
A sour sensation rises from the vertex of the brain, flowing out through the nostrils as yellow fluid with an unbearable foul odor. See the "Bi Yuan" (Nasal Discharge) section under Nasal Diseases for treatment.
Da Shufuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) 2 qian; Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) 20 grains (stuff the hollows with flour); Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 7 slices. Decoct in water, add a little salt, and take orally.
Congzhi (Allii Fistulosi Juice) 5 qian, mixed with wine for oral administration. Relief comes after vomiting worm-like substances.

Refer to the formula for Putao Chuang (Grape Ulcer) in Volume 11. This is called Quanmao Du Chuang (Curly Hair Toxic Ulcer). Use Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) 1 liang, Ruxiang (Olibanum) 2.5 qian. Grind together into powder. Mix with thick decoction of Huaihua (Sophorae Flos) to form a cake, and apply to the ulcer site.
