For thin women, the etiology is attributed to weak Spleen and Stomach and deficiency of Qi and Blood. Treatment utilizes Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Ten-Absence Tonification) and Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill) (see previous text).
For obese women, the etiology is attributed to excessive Phlegm combined with deficiency of Qi and Blood. Treatment utilizes Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) added with Cangsha Daotan Wan (Atractylodes and Cyperus Pill for Resolving Phlegm): Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Zhi Banxia (Prepared Pinellia Tuber) each 0.7 qian; Gancao (Licorice Root) 0.5 qian; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soaked in rice water), Guishen (Angelica Sinensis Radix tip), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, stir-fried with child's urine), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) each 1 qian; use Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) as a guide.
Cangsha Daotan Wan Formula: Xiangfu (stir-fried with child's urine), Cangzhu each 2 liang; Chenpi, Yunling (Poria) each 1.5 liang; Zhike, Zhi Banxia (Prepared Pinellia Tuber), Nanting (Arisaema Cum Bile), Zhi Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) each 1 liang. Form pills using wheat flour paste soaked in fresh ginger juice; take with light ginger decoction.
Generally, treatment follows the principle of addressing deficiency, utilizing Jiajian Bawu Tang (Modified Eight-Ingredient Decoction): Taidang (Codonopsis Radix), Baizhu, Fuling, Zhi Cao, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong, Chenpi, Danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza Radix), Zhi Xiangfu (Prepared Cyperi Rhizoma), Danpi (Moutan Cortex) each 1 qian; use Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Dazao (Jujube) as guides; decoct in water and take orally.
Wuji Wan (Black Chicken Pill): This pill specifically treats women with weak Spleen and Stomach, damage to Chong and Ren vessels, insufficiency of Blood and Qi, irregular menstruation leading to infertility; it has proven effective repeatedly. Select one white-feathered black-boned rooster (refer to *Yao Wu Bei Yao* for details); feed it with glutinous rice for seven days, preventing it from eating insects, ants, or wild food. Hang it to death with a rope, remove viscera (stir-fry with salt water to remove fibrous threads), add Taidang, Zhi Cao, Rousongrong (Cistanche Stem), Zhima (Sesamum Indicum Seed, fried), Xiaohui (Foeniculum Vulgare Fruit, fried), Sharen (Amomi Fructus) each 1 liang, Chuanxiong, Bai... [Text appears truncated here in original].
Wuji Soup: Has the same efficacy as the aforementioned Wuji Wan. Use one white-feathered black-boned chicken, processed identically as above. Add Yimucao (Leonurus Japonicus Herba) 1 liang, Heixiaodou (Black Soybean) one teacupful; place together inside the chicken's cavity. Steam until cooked with half water and half wine. Consume the chicken and soup on an empty stomach. After one or two doses, menstrual cycles will become regular without error, showing unparalleled efficacy.
For thin women with scanty menstruation, the etiology is attributed to insufficient Qi and Blood. Use Siwu Jia Renshen Tang (Four-Substance Decoction plus Ginseng): Taidang, Chuanxiong, Baishao (White Peony Root), Guishen, Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Xiangfu (stir-fried with child's urine), Zhi Cao each 1 qian; use Shengjiang and Dazao as guides; decoct in water and take orally.
For obese women with scanty menstruation, the etiology is attributed to Phlegm obstructing the meridians. Use Erchen Jia Xiong Gui Tang (Two-Aged Decoction plus Ligusticum and Angelica): Chenpi, Fuling, Guishen, Chuanxiong, Xiangfu (stir-fried with child's urine), Zhike each 1 qian; Zhi Banxia 0.8 fen; Gancao 0.5 fen; Huashi (Talcum) 0.3 fen; use Shengjiang as a guide; decoct in water and take orally.
For all cases of excessive menstruation, regardless of body type, the etiology is attributed to Heat. Use Siwu Jia Qinlian Tang (Four-Substance Decoction plus Scutellaria and Coptis): Guishen, Baishao, Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Shengdi, Tiao Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) each 1 qian; Chuanxiong, Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) each 0.5 fen; Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) 0.7 fen; decoct in water and take orally, concurrently taking Sanbu Wan (Three-Tonic Pill) (see previous text).
