Regardless of whether one uses peach, apricot, jujube, chestnut, or any other dried fruit, take one piece and recite the incantation: "I come from the east, I encounter a pool of water on the way. In the water is a dragon, with nine heads and eighteen tails. I ask it what it eats? It only eats the malaria ghost." Recite once, blow air onto the fruit, repeat the incantation seven times in total, blowing seven times, then have the patient eat the fruit. This must be done at the fifth watch (around 3-5 AM), when chickens and dogs are silent, facing east while standing. Avoid consuming meat, fish, and raw/cold foods. In places without medicine, this method is very effective for saving people.
Another prescription: Before sunrise in the early morning, remove one piece of clothing worn directly against the patient's skin. Take a small jar, place the clothing inside, and have the patient blow three breaths into the jar. Immediately seal the mouth of the jar with paper and tie it tightly, then send it to a secluded place. When performing this method, do not let anyone see; if seen, it will not work.
Another prescription: On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (Dragon Boat Festival), take a complete copy of the current year's *Shixian Shu* (Imperial Calendar) and burn it to ash. Mix the ash with realgar wine (Xionghuang Jiu) to form pills the size of Chinese quince seeds. Swallow one pill with warm boiled water every early morning; this is very effective in stopping malaria.
Additionally, after malaria has attacked three times, on the day before the next expected attack, take three qian of powder from Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), mixed with yellow wine, and drink until intoxicated. Externally, mash a piece of old ginger and apply it to the Haiyan acupoint (located at the back of the neck, level with the collarbone/occipital bone). Cover with Jingutong Gao (Pain-relieving Plaster for Muscles and Bones), cover with a blanket, sleep soundly until sweating occurs, and recover. After recovery, continue applying the plaster for several more days to prevent recurrence. Avoid "fa wu" (triggering foods) such as pumpkin, taro, chicken, and duck eggs for one hundred days.
One liang of Manis Pentadactyla Scale (Chanshanjia) and ten red dates are roasted together until the medicinal properties are preserved but the material is charred (Cun Xing), then ground into powder. At the fifth watch on the day of the fever attack, mix three qian with Jinghua Shui (well water drawn at dawn) and take orally. Three doses result in cure.
Four liang of fresh ginger, crushed with the skin to extract juice (one zhong/cup), left exposed to the night dew overnight, taken cold on an empty stomach.
Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) stir-fried with soil, ground into powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with wine. Ten doses can eradicate the root cause. This treats Pi Han Nue (Spleen-Cold Malaria).
Another prescription for chronic malaria: Quinoa fine flour (or buckwheat flour, Qiaomai Xi Mian), amount unspecified. Mix with blood from the spines of a live softshell turtle (Bie Yu Ci Xue) to form pills. Dry in the shade. Take three qian in advance before the onset of symptoms, washed down with plain boiled water.
Another prescription for long-standing malaria lasting years: Roast Tortoise Shell (Guiban) with vinegar until crisp and charred (preserving medicinal efficacy), grind into powder, and mix with wine. Take two qian per dose; all are extremely effective.
