Heat pathogen accumulates in the throat, causing external swelling accompanied by numbness and itching. Use the nasal strap of *Qian Niu* (Morning Glory Seed) burned to ash, ground into fine powder, and insufflated into the affected area; it is highly effective. Additionally, treat with various external therapies for throat diseases listed in Volume 1, which have proven miraculously effective upon repeated trials.
Another prescription: Place bile from a green carp (*Carassius auratus*) in a porcelain dish, dry it in the sun, scrape it off, add a small amount of *Bing Pian* (Borneol), grind uniformly, and insufflate into the throat. It can treat all types of throat disorders. Miraculous effects have been frequently observed.
If not prepared in advance, they may be difficult to find in an emergency. Ordinarily, collect *Yan You* (slug/mollusk) in advance, regardless of quantity, place them in a bottle, and press them with aged salted plum flesh or *Wu Mei* (Dark Plum) flesh; they will liquefy. In cases of acute throat emergencies, take a few drops and instill into the throat for extreme efficacy. If no prepared stock is available, urgently take one slug, wrap it inside a pitted salted plum, tie it securely, and hold it in the mouth. The fluid that flows down to the throat and is swallowed brings immediate cure.
Another prescription: *Ku Fan* (Alum) 1 qian, *Bai Cao Shuang* (Soot from the center of the cooking pot bottom, preferably from burning mugwort grass in rural areas) 2 fen, grind both into fine powder together. These two prescriptions, along with the Alum Powder wrapped in Pig Gallbladder prescribed on the 8th day of the 12th lunar month by Zheng Yi for throat diseases, must be prepared in advance as essential medicines for treating acute throat wind (Laryngospasm/Acute Laryngitis), vomiting phlegm, and reducing swelling.
This refers to Chan Hou Feng (Coiling Throat Wind). It is the most acute and severe form of Yang syndrome. It arises suddenly, with rapid onset and severe swelling that expands quickly. The entire throat is covered with red filaments, accompanied by excruciating pain. Within moments, voice loss occurs, and neither soup nor water can be ingested. Phlegm and saliva obstruct and cause distension and closure, resembling a rope strangling the throat, hence the name Chan Hou Feng. If not treated urgently, it can be fatal. The practitioner must ride swiftly to rescue the patient without delay, thus it is also called Zou Ma Hou Feng (Running Horse Throat Wind). For such acute conditions, refer to the external treatment methods for throat diseases in Volume 1. Puncture the Shaoshang acupoint (LU-11) with a porcelain needle to express dark blood. Alternatively, apply a small amount of oil to the posterior neck fossa and scrape downwards with a copper coin, similar to Guasha (scraping therapy). Red petechiae will appear immediately; puncture these slightly with a porcelain needle and have someone suck out the dark blood with their mouth. This not only saves lives in emergencies but also eliminates the root cause, preventing recurrence. Life hangs in the balance within moments; decoctions cannot be administered in time, and even if available, they cannot be swallowed. Moreover, herbal medicine acts slowly; only external therapy can save the patient. This method is excellent for all acute throat conditions.
