Whenever an elderly woman experiences sudden, profuse uterine bleeding that does not stop, it is called "Dao Jing" (Reverse Menstruation). Administer this prescription immediately; one dose will instantly arrest the hemorrhage. If fever persists, decoct three qian of Lu'an tea leaves (if unavailable, other teas may be used) and take once orally; the body heat will subside immediately. Subsequently, use Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with added Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis) and Bai Shao (White Peony Root) to regulate and restore health. Use one liang of aged Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) (stir-fried with rice flour until it forms beads; if unavailable, aged Huang Ming Jiao [Yellow Clear Gelatin] may be substituted, though none compares to the efficacy of Ejiao), and Qu Feng Ke (Honeycomb) roasted until charred and ground into powder, five fen, taken with warm wine; this yields miraculous effects. This is a formula from Zhang Wenzhong.
This condition arises from sinking of Spleen Qi and insecurity of Yuan Qi (Original Qi). It is appropriate to use the previously mentioned Modified Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), combined with Lu Jiao Shuang Wan (Deer Antler Frost Pill): Lu Jiao Shuang (Deer Antler Frost), Bai Zi Ren (Biota Seed, shelled and stir-fried), Gui Shen (Angelica Sinensis root), Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood), Long Gu (Fossilized Bones, preparation unspecified), and Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, stir-fried with clam powder until it forms beads) each one liang; Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Wallichii) seven qian; and Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rotundus, vinegar-processed) two liang, taken with warm wine.
Women often suffer from disorders such as Dai Xia (Leukorrhea), Bai Zhuo (White Turbid Discharge), and Bai Yin (White Seminal Emission). Although the symptoms differ, the treatments vary. For Dai Xia, clear, cold, thick, and sticky discharge flows constantly; this is a symptom of deficiency and damage in the Lower Yuan (Lower Origin). For Bai Zhuo, turbid fluid accompanies urination, appearing cloudy like rice wash water; this results from turbid Qi in the Stomach seeping into the Bladder. For Bai Yin, slight discharge occurs after urination; this is due to failure to secure male essence, causing spontaneous slipping, which heals spontaneously without treatment.
Formula for treating Bai Zhuo: Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel), Ban Xia (Pinellia Ternata, processed), Bai Fu Ling (White Poria), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala), Yi Zhi Ren (Alpinia Oxyphylla, stir-fried with salt water and ground), and Cang Zhu (Atractylodes Lancea) each one qian; Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Licorice Root) five qian.
For leukorrhea that persists for a long time, the focus should be solely on tonifying deficiency. It is advisable to take Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Comprehensive Great Tonifying Decoction) with Di Huang (Rehmannia Root) removed, adding Chen Pi, Ban Xia, and Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger). Additionally, take Shen Zhu Da Bu Wan (Ginseng and Atractylodes Comprehensive Tonifying Pill) (see previous sections) to tonify Spleen and Stomach deficiency, and Bu Gong Wan (Uterus-Tonifying Pill) to replenish depletion of the Lower Yuan.
Bu Gong Wan: Lu Jiao Shuang (Deer Antler Frost), Fu Ling (Poria), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala), Bai Shao (White Peony Root), Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica), Mu Li (Oyster Shell, stir-fried with child's urine), Zhen Shan Yao (True Chinese Yam), Long Gu (Fossilized Bones, preparation unspecified), and Chi Shi Zhi (Red Halloysite) each five qian; Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, stir-fried) two qian and five fen. Boil with vinegar to form pills, taken with rice soup on an empty stomach.
Another formula: Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala) five qian, Zhen Yun Ling (True Cloud Poria) two qian, Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed) one qian, Ji Guan Hua (Celosia Cristata Flower) three qian. Decoct in water and take orally. Regardless of duration, its efficacy is miraculous, hitting the mark every time. For Chi Dai (Red Leukorrhea), use white Celosia Cristata flowers; for Bai Dai (White Leukorrhea), use red Celosia Cristata flowers. If reversed, they must be stir-fried.
Another formula: For red and white leukorrhea unresponsive to various medicines and persisting for years, this is caused by Damp-Heat. Take one Guan Zhong (Cyrtomium Fortunii Rhizome), remove skin and hairs, soak thoroughly in good aged vinegar, slow-cook until ripe, and grind into powder. Take with rice soup on an empty stomach. Each dose is two qian; this is also a formula that hits the mark every time.
