Apply crushed loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) to the affected area; this is also effective.
Take eight taels of honey, boil until rolling, add one jin of good-quality distilled liquor, drink as much as possible while hot to induce sweating, then lie down quietly. The foreign body will discharge spontaneously the next day.
Mash fatty, aged cured meat, mix with a small amount of powdered fingernails and powdered ivory, apply evenly to the site; the foreign body will be expelled.
Another prescription: Gather mushrooms growing on cow dung in the mountains, dry them, grind into powder, mix with honey, and apply; the foreign body will discharge spontaneously.
Another prescription: Apply cold-food maltose made from rice to the affected area; when pain ceases and itching occurs, the foreign body will be expelled.
Another prescription: Crush half a seed of Croton tiglium (Badi Dou, 巴豆) and one dung beetle (Scarabaeus sacer, 蜣螂), apply the paste; when extreme itching occurs, the foreign body will be expelled. If a tin bullet has penetrated the flesh, pour mercury into the wound; the tin bullet will dissolve spontaneously.
For arrowheads broken off between bone and flesh, an anesthetic must be administered first to render the patient insensible to pain, so that they can be extracted with forceps. If a small splinter cannot be removed, use Heishen San (Black Divine Powder, also known as Baicaoshuang, i.e., soot from the bottom of the cooking pot), stir-fry until smoke disappears, mix with refined sesame oil, and apply; the splinter will be expelled.
Liu Chengyi Bo of the Ming Dynasty stated: "Many people die in vain due to mismatched prescriptions." My great-grandfather, Ruo Gu Gong, in his *Secret Collection*, said: "There are no fatal cases of carbuncles and sores." However, various medical texts focus only on where the disease arises and which meridian it belongs to. Thus, for treating ru yan (breast cancer), they use Antelope Horn (Lingyang Jiao, 羚羊角) and Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao, 犀角); for heng xuan (inguinal lymphadenitis), they use Rehmannia Root (Sheng Di Huang, 生地) and Stephania Tetrandra (Fangji, 防己); for luo li (scrofula) and e he (subcutaneous nodules), they use Prunella Vulgaris (Xiakucao, 夏枯草) and Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao, 连翘). They generally do not differentiate between yin deficiency and yang excess, relying solely on guiding herbs, resulting in cases of ru yan and heng xuan where, even if treated, life cannot be saved. Luo li and e he, after prolonged ulceration, lead to debility. Practitioners fail to reflect on the errors caused by guiding herbs, instead excusing themselves by saying, "Among those with white abscesses, all hundred will go to the underworld." In fact, red carbuncle is a yang excess syndrome, characterized by hot qi and blood with stagnant toxin; white abscess is a yin deficiency syndrome, characterized by cold qi and blood with coagulated toxin. For both, opening the couli (skin pores and interstices) is essential. Once the couli are open, the red carbuncle's toxin is resolved, pain stops, and it subsides; the white abscess's cold is dispersed, coagulation resolves, and it heals immediately. If one relies solely on meridians while ignoring symptoms, although the drugs may correspond to the meridians, they actually contradict the disease nature. Are there not many people in the world who die from yin abscesses! If treatment distinguishes between yin deficiency and yang excess, the statement that "there are no fatal cases of carbuncles and sores" is indeed accurate. My great-grandfather paid close attention to this field, recording methods for saving lives in critical conditions and medicines that eliminate major diseases at their onset in a book, making it a family treasure. I studied it since childhood and found its treatment methods vastly different from other contemporary texts. Having practiced clinically for over forty years, I have saved those in critical condition, dissipated those at the onset, stopped pain and severe itching, and promoted healing for unbearable ulcerations. It works perfectly every time, without failure. Reflecting that treating carbuncles and sores based solely on meridians has been prevalent worldwide for a long time, while distinguishing yin and yang for separate treatment is unique to my family, and considering my practice is limited to village boundaries, whereas extending it to the whole city would require multiple bodies, I feel deep sorrow whenever I hear of unnecessary deaths. Therefore, I hereby disclose the ancestral secret formulas, clinical prescriptions proven effective, and precise methods for preparing medicinal materials, including them all in this collection, preface them, and have them printed, to consult with those in the world who care about saving lives. May people follow the prescriptions for compounding, follow the methods for treatment, and follow the symptoms for medication, thereby avoiding unnecessary deaths, allowing future generations to know that carbuncles and sores indeed have no fatal cases!
