Whenever encountering the "Annual Roaming White Tiger Killing Spirit" (Nian You Bai Hu Sha Shen), a malefic star, it is located one position behind the Tai Sui (Grand Duke Jupiter). For instance, if Tai Sui is in Mao (Rabbit), then the White Tiger is in Yin (Tiger). If childbirth or the burial of the placenta violates this direction, it will be unfavorable for both mother and child. One should select auspicious times such as Tian De (Heavenly Virtue) or Yue Kong (Monthly Emptiness), dig a pit three chi deep in a sunny and high-dry place to bury it, ensuring it is firmly compacted and undamaged, so that the child may grow robust; this must not be neglected.
The condition known as "Mouth Grasping" (Cuo Kou) refers to the mouth contracting like a pouch. The infant cannot suckle milk, has a stiff tongue and cyanotic lips, with a yellowish-red complexion. This is caused by heat in the Heart and Spleen, inherited from the fetal stage. The symptoms are perilous. Urgently use Zi Su (Perilla Leaf), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), and Zhi Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried), each 5 fen. Decoct in water, strain, and while warm, dip cotton in the medicine and drip into the mouth frequently.
Another prescription: Have the infant hold good-quality distilled liquor in the mouth and suck towards the umbilicus; this is extremely effective.
Another prescription: Take 3 fen of fingernails from the parents, roast them to ash, grind into an ultra-fine powder, and administer mixed with breast milk.
Another prescription: Crush mustard seeds to extract juice, apply to the corners of the mouth after pricking them to cause slight bleeding.
Another prescription: Use 2 fen of Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis), mix with Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap), and灌 (drip/pour) into the mouth.
The condition known as "Jin Kou" (Locked Mouth/Trismus), if left untreated, often proves fatal. Symptoms include ulcers on the tongue resembling millet grains, inability to suckle, and gradually diminishing cries, caused by fetal heat. Urgently use Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) ground into powder, add a small amount of Pian Nao (Borneolum Syntheticum), grind uniformly together. Dip a finger in Ginger Juice, stick the powder to the gums, and the mouth will open immediately.
Alternatively, use Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis) mixed with Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap) administered via spoon, followed by dripping pig milk into the mouth.
Another prescription: Take 14 Chan Tui (Cicada Slough), remove head and feet; take 14 Quan Xie (Scorpio), stir-fry to remove toxicity. Grind both into fine powder, mix with breast milk for oral administration, 1-2 fen per dose.
Additionally, for infants who do not suckle: 19 Hei Dou (Semen Sojae Preparatum), 7 segments of Mao Cao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma, each segment about 1 cun long), one piece of red gold vessel, one piece of silver vessel, and one cup of human milk. Decoct together until only 5 fen of liquid remains, and administer. After consumption, the infant will be able to feed.
During bathing of the newborn, water vapor must not enter the umbilicus. After wrapping, one must remain vigilant to prevent urine from wetting and soaking the umbilicus. A slight lack of caution can lead to "Umbilical Ulcer" (Qi Chuang). Use Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) baked dry and ground into fine powder, frequently sprinkled into the umbilicus; it will heal naturally over time.
Additionally, for "Umbilical Protrusion" (Qi Tu), where the umbilicus suddenly becomes red and swollen, appearing vacuously large, shiny, and floating, it is named Qi Tu. Use Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) ground into powder, combined with Fu Di Yan (Baicao Shuang, i.e., soot from the bottom of the cauldron) and Luan Fa (human hair) burnt to ash...
Another prescription: Ash from burning ordinary paper is also excellent.
Additionally, for oozing from the umbilical hole: Mu Li (Ostreae Concha), Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Yun Mu (Muscovite), Sheng Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Chen Bi Tu (old wall soil), all in equal parts, ground uniformly and sprinkled into the umbilicus; it heals immediately.
