Shanghan (Cold Damage), Shangfeng (Wind Strike), and Shangshi (Food Injury), as well as tidal fevers caused by conditions such as Jingfeng (Convulsive Disorder), if they persist for a long time, are also inadvisable. Measles may therefore erupt opportunistically.
If the hands and feet are slightly cold, accompanied by aversion to cold and absence of sweating, with a cyanotic, gloomy facial complexion that appears constrained, and blue streaks on the left forehead, this is heat due to Shanghan (Cold Damage).
If the hands and feet are slightly warm, accompanied by fever and sweating, with a red and lustrous facial complexion, this is heat due to Shangfeng (Wind Strike). Both conditions are suitable for treatment with Xingxing San (Starry Starry Powder), but Ren Shen (Ginseng) and Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) should be omitted to enhance the dispersing action.
If the eyelids are swollen or there are blue veins on the right cheek, with fever being most severe in the head, forehead, abdomen, and belly, or accompanied by vomiting and abdominal pain, this is heat due to Shangshi (Food Injury). This condition is suitable for purgation using Beiji Wan (Emergency Pill).
If the facial complexion is cyanotic mixed with red, with lines on the center of the forehead, sweating on the palms, frequent signs of fright and vigilance, slight trembling of the hand collaterals, and fever, this is heat due to Jing (Fright). This condition is primarily treated with Xieqing Wan (Drain Blue Pill) and Niuhuang Qingxin Wan (Calvescent Calculus Clear Heart Pill).
If the body is hot, appetite is significantly increased, lips are red, cheeks are flushed, urination and defecation are obstructed, and there is sweating under the ribs, this is Wind-Heat. This condition is primarily treated with Xuanfeng San (Disperse Wind Powder). If any of the above types of heat persist for a long time, causing internal and external pathogenic factors to interact and trigger, then the toxic pathogens of smallpox and measles stored within can also erupt opportunistically.
