To needle *Ji Bi* (Muscle Bi, a type of bi syndrome affecting muscles), if heat is felt throughout the intermuscular spaces, the disease will be cured.
When the pathology is in the bones, the patient feels heavy in the bones and cannot lift them, experiences pain in the bone marrow, and is affected by cold qi; this condition is named *Gu Bi* (Bone Bi). Deep needling should not damage the vessels and flesh as the primary principle; needle until the large and small divisions of the bone are reached, and when heat is felt in the bone, the disease will be cured. (Needling for Bone Bi is the twenty-second method. When pathogenic factors lodge in the bones, causing heaviness and pain, it is called Bone Bi. Needling should avoid damaging the areas of vessels and flesh, proceeding until the large and small divisions between the bone parts are needled.)
When the pathology is in the various Yang meridians, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, and the various intermuscular spaces of the body and limbs also exhibit alternating chills and fever, this condition is named *Kuang* (Mania). Needling should reduce the pulse; observe until all intermuscular spaces become hot, then stop needling once the disease is cured. (Needling for Mania is the twenty-third method. Yang qi merges with the Yangming and Taiyang meridians, hence termed "various Yang meridians." The body and limbs experiencing simultaneous chills and fever is termed Mania. The needling method involves tonifying deficient Yin, causing all intermuscular spaces to feel hot, thereby restoring balance.)
If the disease initially presents with frequent attacks, and one attack is left untreated, followed by an attack once a day, and if left untreated again, progressing to four or five attacks, this condition is named *Dian Bing* (Epilepsy/Dian Syndrome). Needle the various intermuscular spaces and meridians; for those parts that are particularly cold, regulate them with needles, and stop when the disease is cured. (Needling for Dian Syndrome is the twenty-fourth method. Leaving one attack untreated refers to: after an initial severe attack of Dian, there is a period without recurrence. If untreated, subsequent attacks may occur once a day. If still untreated, they may occur four or five times within a single day, termed Dian Syndrome. The needling method waits for the attack to subside before needling the various intermuscular spaces and meridians, using needles to tonify the particularly cold areas, stopping upon cure. Some texts record this as occurring once a month.)
In wind diseases presenting with alternating chills and fever accompanied by sweating, occurring multiple times a day, first needle the textures of the intermuscular spaces and collateral vessels. If chills and fever persist, needle once every three days; the disease will be cured after one hundred days. (Needling for alternating chills and fever is the twenty-fifth method. Wind causes alternating chills and fever with sweating multiple times daily. Needle the cutaneous pores and collaterals of the intermuscular spaces. If chills and fever persist, needle once every three days; this constitutes the dosage regimen.)
In severe wind diseases (*Da Feng*, often referring to leprosy), where joints feel heavy and eyebrows and beard fall out, this condition is named *Da Feng*. Needle the muscles until sweating occurs, continuing for one hundred days; then needle the bone marrow until sweating occurs, continuing for another one hundred days. In total, two hundred days are required, stopping only when the eyebrows and beard have regrown. (Needling for Da Feng is the twenty-sixth method. Needling the muscle regions and bone marrow regions, each for one hundred days, totaling two hundred days, with the regrowth of eyebrows and beard as the endpoint.)
