Pain in the mandible/jaw:
Puncture the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel and the full collateral vessels in the jaw area to bleed. Pain in the cheek: Puncture the arterial pulse at Quzhou (a point on the face) of the Foot-Yangming Stomach channel until blood appears; the pain will cease immediately. If it does not cease, press the Renying (ST9) acupoint along the meridian; the pain will cease immediately. (The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel ascends through the neck and penetrates the cheek, therefore pain in the cheek is treated by selecting this channel. The arterial pulse at Quzhou belongs to the Foot-Yangming Stomach channel, not the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel.)
(Ping An: In *Jia Yi Jing*, "he" [jaw] is written as "han" [chin]; in *Ling Shu*, it is written as a variant character. In *Jia Yi Jing*, "jia" [cheek] is written as "han"; in *Ling Shu*, it is written as a variant character. In *Ling Shu* and *Jia Yi Jing*, "ci Yangming" [puncture Yangming] is written as "ci Zu Yangming" [puncture Foot-Yangming]. In *Jia Yi Jing*, "an Renying yu jing" [press Renying on the meridian] is written as "an jing ci Renying" [press the meridian and puncture Renying].)
(Ping An: From the beginning of this chapter up to "like a leek leaf," it is found in *Ling Shu*, Volume 5, Chapter 23 "Heat Diseases", and also in *Jia Yi Jing*, Volume 9, Section 2. From "Bi syndrome of the throat unable to speak" to the end, it is found in *Ling Shu*, Volume 5, Chapter 26 "Miscellaneous Diseases", and also in *Jia Yi Jing*, Volume 12, Section 8 and Volume 7, First Middle Chapter.)
Pain in the nape/neck with inability to bend forward or backward: Puncture the Foot-Taiyang Bladder channel; inability to turn the head left or right: Puncture the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine channel. (The Foot-Taiyang Bladder channel runs along the nape, so inability to bend forward/backward is treated by selecting this channel. The Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine channel runs along both sides of the nape, so inability to turn the head is treated by selecting this channel.)
(Ping An: In *Jia Yi Jing*, "xiang tong" [neck pain] is written as "tou xiang" [head and neck]. In *Ling Shu*, there is an additional "yi" [can] character above "gu" [look back].)

Bi syndrome of the throat causing tongue retraction, dryness in the mouth, vexation, heart pain, and pain along the medial aspect of the arm such that the hand cannot reach the head: Select the area under the nail of the fourth finger (ring finger) of the hand, at a distance from the corner like a leek leaf width. (The tip of the fourth finger of the hand corresponds to Guanchong (SJ1) of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao (Triple Burner) channel. The Hand-Jueyin Pericardium channel originates in the chest and belongs to the Pericardium, descending through the diaphragm; the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao channel starts from Danzhong (CV17), ascends, and connects behind the ear. Therefore, Bi syndrome of the throat, tongue retraction, dry mouth, vexation, heart pain, and pain along the medial arm are all treated by selecting this channel.)
(Ping An: In *Jia Yi Jing*, "bi nei lian tong" [pain along the medial arm] is written as "bi biao tong" [pain on the superficial side of the arm], with a note stating: Both *Ling Shu* and *Tai Su* write "bi nei lian tong". Additionally, *Jia Yi Jing* includes the characters "Guan Chong zai san" [Guanchong is the third] after the selection instruction, and the character "xu" [approximately] after "leek leaf". One character was originally missing in the annotation; Yuan's edition supplied "chu" [exit], but checking *Ling Shu · Meridians*, the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao channel ascends the neck to connect behind the ear, so it should be "xiang" [neck]. Furthermore, in the annotation "jie qu zhi" [all select them], the character "jie" [all] was erroneously printed as "zhe" [this/that] in Yuan's edition.)
Bi syndrome of the throat causing inability to speak: Select the Foot-Yangming Stomach channel; if able to speak: Select the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel. (The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel follows the Clavicular fossa (Quepen) and ascends to the head; the Foot-Yangming Stomach channel follows the throat and enters the Clavicular fossa. Therefore, for Bi syndrome of the throat, whether the patient can speak or not, these two channels are selected to treat the primary disease.)
Dryness of the pharynx/gullet, heat in the mouth feeling sticky like glue: Select the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney channel. (The Foot-Shaoyin Kidney channel reaches under the tongue, therefore heat in the mouth is treated by selecting this channel.)
(Ping An: In *Jia Yi Jing*, "Shaoyin" is written as "Shaoyang".)
