(Primarily associated with the Liver. From *Suwen: Qibing Lun* [Treatise on Rare Diseases in the Basic Questions].)
If the pulse at the cun-kou position (specifically the chi position) is rapid and extremely fast, manifesting with urgency externally, the abdomen must be tight and painful; a rapid pulse also indicates deficiency, and the appearance of such a pulse is named thusly.
Baiziren San (Bai Zi Ren Powder) is indicated for this condition: It treats cold generated by Liver deficiency, characterized by a rapid and rigid pulse, distension and stuffiness in the abdomen and hypochondrium, with symptoms manifesting externally. (The fifteen-ingredient Baiziren Wan in *Shenghui Fang* [Prescriptions from the Holy Benefit Bureau] also treats this condition.)
Ingredients: Baiziren (Seed of Biota Orientalis), Fuling (Poria), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Xixin (Herba Asari), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Guigui (Cortex Cinnamomi), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong) (each 3 liang); Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Binglang (Semen Arecae) (each 0.5 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, 3 slices of Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens), and 2 dates (Zao). Decoct together until reduced to 0.8 zhan. Strain and remove the dregs. Take warm, at any time.
(Primarily associated with the Kidney. From *Suwen: Qibing Lun* [Treatise on Rare Diseases in the Basic Questions].)
When Kidney deficiency is invaded by severe cold, resulting in headache and toothache, where the pain is severe and persists for years without cessation, this is the case. Treat with the following formula:
Tiannanxing Wan (Arisaema Pill) is indicated for this condition: It treats headache caused by Jue-ni (reversal of qi), toothache, bone cold, simultaneous Jue-ni of the Stomach pulse and Kidney pulse, and unbearable headache.
Ingredients: Tiannanxing (Rhizoma Arisaematis Preparatum, processed), Liuhuang (Sulfur), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas) (each in equal parts, ground).
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Use wheat paste to form pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, washed down with warm wine. Administer during three times: when empty-stomached, at noon, and before sleep.

Indecision in planning and deliberation indicates Gallbladder deficiency. Qi rushes upward to the mouth; overflowing upwards causes bitter taste in the mouth. The Gallbladder is the organ of purity and clarity; when disturbed by turbid Qi from the Liver, Qi overflows upward.
Yidan Tang (Gallbladder-Benefiting Decoction) is indicated for this condition: It treats Dan-dan (Gallbladder heat syndrome), Gallbladder deficiency, rising hot Qi causing bitterness in the mouth, and unceasing heat evacuation, which occurs because the Zang-Fu organs are inherently deficient.
Ingredients: Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, remove rotten parts), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, honey-fried), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (each 2 liang); Guigui (Cortex Cinnamomi, 1 liang); Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis), Fushen (Poria cum Pinodia) (each 1.5 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1 zhan of water. Decoct until reduced to 0.8 zhan. Strain and remove the dregs. Take warm, at any time.
(Primarily associated with Diarrhea/Runny Stool. From *Suwen: Qiaobianda Lun* [Treatise on Changes in Qi Interaction in the Basic Questions].)
The *Neijing* states: "Excess dampness leads to ru-xie (runny diarrhea)." The *Jiayi Jing* states: "Cold invading generates ru-xie, classified as Wei-xie (Stomach diarrhea), resembling diarrhea that follows downward-moving Qi."
Doukou San (Cardamom Powder) is indicated for this condition: It treats persistent runny diarrhea due to Cold invading the Spleen and Stomach, thereby injuring Dampness, leading to abdominal pain and unceasing slippery diarrhea.
Ingredients: Roudoukou (Semen Myristicae, 5 seeds), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, honey-fried), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) (each in equal parts).
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with 1 zhan of rice drink (Mi Yin). Take before meals. Taking with plain boiled water is also acceptable.
