Internal heat and vexation occur due to the predominance of hot qi. Therefore, even during the cool morning and evening hours, the clamor of fire qi re-emerges. If this suppression persists for a long time without descending, the latent qi transforms into stagnation (Yu).
When metal qi is stagnant and subsequently releases, the sky becomes clear with thin cold, and white mist arises in the distance. With metal being strong and wood deficient, the people suffer from tremors and dizziness, stiffness and numbness of the hands and feet, pain in both hypochondriac regions, and blurred vision. These are all diseases resulting from liver deficiency.
Thus, in the years of Zi and Wu, the Taiyang (Greater Yang) water qi should descend into the earth but is obstructed by the earth's mounds or suppressed by winning qi, preventing its descent and entry. Alternatively, if the Earth transport (Tu Yun) is excessive and arrives prematurely, the Earth transport receives and controls it, causing the water qi to descend but not enter. The sky then displays black qi, appearing dark and desolate. As yellow dust appears, it spreads the transformational command of damp-cold, with steamy moisture recurring. If it fails to descend for a long time, the latent qi transforms into stagnation. The people suffer from Great Jue syndrome, characterized by heavy and lethargic limbs, impotence, and lack of strength. The heavens present a gloomy yin atmosphere, with steaming dampness alternating with other conditions.
In the years of Zi and Wu, when Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) governs the Heaven, Mingyang (Yangming) governs the Earth in the years of Mao and You. The Taiyang water qi serves as the left interstitial qi of the earth. It is obstructed by the earth's mounds, representing Earth overcoming Water. Being overcome by Earth, the water qi descends but does not enter. Alternatively, in the years of Jia-Wu or Jia-Zi, where Earth transport is excessive and arrives prematurely, the Earth transport receives and controls it, causing the water qi to descend but not enter. The sky displays black color, while the water qi attempts to expand but remains dark and obscure.
