Those who follow the Heavenly Dao prosper; those who slight it perish. To act against the righteous path for selfish gain is to inevitably incur heavenly calamity. I respectfully adhere to the Heavenly Dao and request to expound upon its essential truths.
"Ze" (narrow) is synonymous with "Zhai".
"To be pressing, narrow, and subtle" means to be fine and profound. If one reveres and investigates it diligently, disasters can be avoided, thus leading to prosperity. If one neglects it and abandons it, disasters will befall oneself, thus leading to ruin. If one lacks the Way of Heaven and Earth and Yin and Yang, yet practices only the private arts and methods of various schools, one will inevitably incur heavenly punishment. The phrase "inevitably incur" implies that this retribution is not accidental but certain.
