In the case of newborn infants, if blood is discharged in stool or urine within seven days after birth, this is caused by excessive heat in the fetal qi. This occurs because the mother consumed alcohol, wheat products, roasted/fried foods, and other items with heat toxicity; these heat toxins enter the Heart and Lung meridians, and the fetus absorbs them while in the womb. When heat toxins transmit to the Heart and Lung: in girls, heat enters the Heart, resulting in hematuria (blood in urine); in boys, heat enters the Lung, resulting in hematochezia (blood in stool). The treatment method involves extracting fresh juice from Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), mixing it with a small amount of honey, and administering it warm; this is effective for both sexes. Delayed walking, delayed dentition, split skull, bulging fontanelle, five softnesses, crane knee, Kidney-type malnutrition, loose teeth, white pupils, and melancholy in children are all due to congenital insufficiency of Kidney qi. They should be supplemented with Liu Wei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) plus Lu Rong (Deer Antler). If premature sexual activity occurs before essence and qi are fully developed, it often leads to dizziness, thirst with phlegm, fever in feet, soreness/weakness of waist and legs, spontaneous/night sweats, and painful/difficult urination, generating various diseases that are hard to name. I commonly use Liu Wei Wan, Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill), and Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), modified as needed, with consistent efficacy. (Formulas see Tonification section.)
Children who cannot speak by age five are often considered disabled. However, their physical appearance indicates Lung and Kidney insufficiency. Using Liu Wei Wan plus Lu Rong and Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang plus Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), over two months, their constitution and qi gradually strengthened; by nearly five months, they could utter one or two words; by one year, their speech became clear. (Formulas see Tonification section.)
