The patient has small bones and fragile muscles, clearly lacking the robust constitution of pine or cypress. The pulse is rapid with intermittent pauses, already revealing signs of *Xu Lao* (Consumptive Disease). Since the congenital foundation is weak and Kidney Water (Yin) is deficient, and vigorous Fire (hyperactive Yang-heat) again scorches Lung Metal causing dryness, each annual cycle of climatic Qi causes further damage; how can it bear additional depletion? The autumn wind has just begun to injure, inevitably leading to severe injury, with symptoms as previously described. Medication can only tonify the North (Kidney/Water); this is not speaking nonsense, but merely offering a self-deprecating remark.
Formula: Raw Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Di Huang), Glehniae Radix (Sha Shen), Cortex Lycii (Di Gu Pi), Ophiopogonis Radix (Mai Dong), Dendrobii Caulis (Jin Shi Hu), Fresh Trionycis Carapax et Plastrum (Sheng Bie Jia).
Qi Dan, the envoy from the Kingdom of Sulu, and his deputy A Shi Dan, suffered from chronic coughing unable to lie down.
Analyzing the winds of the eight directions and measuring the nature of the five soils, generally your country lies in the Southeast (Xun position) of China, before the stars Ji and Wei, and outside the stars Yi and Zhen. Yang Qi tends to leak out; thus, even if Wind-Cold is contracted, it is easily acquired and easily dispersed. Having come to Huaxia (China), the pathogenic factor has already involved the San Jiao (Triple Burner). Moreover, since lying flat is impossible, Lung Qi is severely damaged; treatment should solely focus on moistening and descending.
Formula: Honey-fried Loquat Leaf (Mi Zhi Pi Pa Ye), Ophiopogonis Tuber (Mai Men Dong), Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus (Chuan Bei Mu), Sweet Almond Seed (Tian Xing Ren), Mulberry Leaf after Frost (Jing Shuang Sang Ye), Coix Seed (Mi Yi Ren).
The *Nei Jing* (Inner Canon) states: Those with soft and fragile bone and flesh have inherently weak constitutions. However, comparing pulse and symptoms, this cough originally belongs to the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. It is heard that predecessors used the following formula: Glehniae Radix (Bei Sha Shen), Bird's Nest (Yan Wo), Mulberry Leaf (Sang Ye), Rock Sugar (Bing Tang), Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus (Chuan Bei Mu), Asteris Radix (Zi Wan).
There is a palpable mound-like elevation in the lower abdomen. When it extends upward to the epigastrium, there is cold reversal (Jue Ni). Onset is sudden, and departure is swift; even a strong man cannot repel it. Upward surging causes the body to feel like it is leaping up. Blood overflows up and down, and many physicians could not treat it. I ponder that this condition is recorded in the *Nan Jing* (Classic of Difficult Issues), though it has not been explicitly demonstrated to people. It also says: This entity, when lurking above and below the umbilicus, causes slight discomfort; when entering the umbilicus, there is slight relief. Thus, the two acupoints beside the umbilicus also correspond to this description. I will not explicitly reveal its meaning, leaving it for other doctors to contemplate and understand.
Administer Shen Mi Wan (Mysterious Pill) with Mint Decoction. Because the patient reasoned that drinking this decoction would cause the entity to settle quietly without moving, this method was also employed. The inherent deficiency of the root is not only disliked by the patient but also leaves practitioners feeling stuck between advancing and retreating. At a time when Wood-Wind Qi is flourishing, the patient's eyes turned yellow, followed by seminal emission, stranguria, and turbid discharge. Shortly after, swelling and pain in the knees and shins rendered walking impossible. Upon my examination, the pulse was wiry and rapid on the left, and bounding and long on the right. The complexion was dark purple, with frequent vomiting. Calmly considering the cause, the previous chaotic illnesses were essentially the same pathogenic factor manifesting as three conditions, lingering sequentially. The pathology moved from upper to lower, and from lower to extreme lower. Due to the long-disrupted foundation, steaming rose upward causing Stomach disease; this is due to the interconnection of Kidney and Stomach. If one does not slightly suppress and eliminate some of it, but merely seeks to return Yang and restore the root, I fear the "Sword Gate" (spiritual/energetic barrier) will bitterly reject it, and the state of Yin peace will no longer exist. I respectfully propose a method, slightly imitating Zhu Danxi, wondering how it will fare.
Formula: Antelope Horn (Ling Yang Jiao), Quince Fruit (Mu Gua), Phellodendri Cortex fried with wine (Jiu Chao Huang Bo), Dragon's House Earth (Fu Long Gan), Raw Coix Seed (Sheng Yi Yi Ren), Tangerine Peel (Ju Hong), Horse Feed Bean (Ma Liao Dou).
Recovering from labor is as rare as Qilin hair or Rabbit horn; or perhaps knocking on the gates of the Jade Terrace, seeking a ray of golden light, might finally bring relief.
