Xiao Jing Wan (Minor Startle Pill)
Jinyin Huapo (Gold and Silver Leaf), Zhusha (Cinnabar), Xionghuang (Realgar), Shexiang (Musk). The base consists of Jinyu (Curcuma aromatica Rhizome, soaked and boiled in Gengjie water, 2 pieces), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizome), Yaxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, not roasted), Huoxiang (Pogostemonis Herba), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix, each 5 qian), and Quanxie (Scorpio, whole).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Form pills using a starch paste coating. Coat with Xionghuang (Realgar), Zhusha (Cinnabar), Shexiang (Musk), and Jinyin Huapo (Gold and Silver Leaf). For Fengzhuo (Wind Epilepsy) with severe heat from startle, add Mahren (Kansui Seed? Note: Text says Mahren, likely Hemp Seed or similar laxative context, but strictly Mahren is not standard, assuming Mah Ren/Hemp Seed for moistening) [Correction: Text says "Ma Ren" usually implies Cannabis Seed, but here listed as additive], Chantui (Cicada Slough), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix). For Baixiehuang (White Diarrhea with Sallow Complexion), take regularly; add Jinyin (Gold/Silver leaf) and Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) according to dosage.
Tongxin Yin (Heart-Opening Decoction)
Treats obstruction of Heart Qi, promotes urination, reduces tidal fever, and separates clear from turbid fluids to aid grain and water metabolism. Also treats Xuanluofeng (Screw-shell Wind, an ophthalmic condition).
Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, peeled and nodes removed), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructum), Qumai (Dianthi Herba), Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Semen), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhzae Radix et Rhizoma, equal parts).
Crush into coarse powder. Take 2 qian per dose. Decoct with 1 cup of water, Dengxincao (Junci Medullia), and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed). In spring, add Chantui (Cicada Slough) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); in summer, add Fuling (Poria) and Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen). If sores are present, adjust accordingly. Infants under one year may take together with Ganlu Yin (Sweet Dew Decoction).
Da Qing Gao (Major Green Ointment)
This medicine treats the initial onset of Ji Jing (Acute Startle/Epilepsy), unresolved Shanghan (Cold Damage), continuous warmth throughout the day, which gradually transmits into wind diseases.
When the manifestations of Jing Feng (Startle Wind) are unclear: if considered Yin syndrome, the whole body is warm; if considered Yang syndrome, convulsions are not severe. This indicates disharmony of Yin and Yang. It is appropriate to use Fangfeng Wendan Tang (Saposhnikoviae and Pinellia Warming Gallbladder Decoction).
Chantui San (Cicada Slough Powder)
Treats Jing Feng Tian Diao (Startle Wind with Opisthotonos), Heart Heat, Night Crying, and Jing Xian (Startle Epilepsy).
Chantui (Cicada Slough, 60 pieces, cleaned of dirt, feet, and wings), Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica, 1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhzae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, honey-fried), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, wrapped in paper and baked), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
Crush into coarse powder. Take 2 qian per dose. Decoct with 1 cup of water and Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma). Take warm. For night crying, emphasize Chantui; for rashes, add Zicao (Arnebiae Radix). Stop administration after bowel movements become regular.
Li Jing Wan (Startle-Relieving Pill)
Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Qingfen (Calomelas, each 1 qian), Tianzhuhuang (Bambusae Calamus), Heiqianniu (Pharbitidis Semen, black variety, powdered, raw, 0.5 liang).
Grind together thoroughly. Make pills with honey, size of small beans. One pill per year of age. Take after meals, washed down with Bohe Shui (Mint Water).
Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction)
Add Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); this combination is most effective for relieving startle. This is essentially Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction). (See Formula Class in Shanghan Category.)
Lianggan Wan (Liver-Cooling Pill)
Indications same as above. (See formula later.)
