Equal parts of the above herbs are ground into fine powder. For each dose of two fen of medicine, mix evenly with one fen of raw dough. Boil in rolling water until it floats. Stir and blend. Then take natural juice of fresh ginger to mix and take. (See the section on Spleen and Stomach Deficiency and Excess in the Five Viscera category).
Fanwei (reverse peristalsis/vomiting) originates from the stomach. Food is vomited out because the stomach cannot receive and store it; this is referred to as the reversal of the stomach opening. It is mostly caused by initial rebellion of stomach qi, excessive alcohol consumption damaging the body, or accumulation of wind pathogens leading to this disease. Tracing its origin, women contracting this disease often suffer from deficiency and damage of qi and blood; men contracting this disease often suffer from coldness and exhaustion of the lower yuan (kidney essence/origin). Some vomit immediately after eating; others develop fanwei after a long period post-meal. Since the causes of illness vary, medical treatment must be carefully examined. As previously recorded, medicines such as Yufu Wan and Weidan can be selected according to symptoms. Later prescriptions such as Yaoling Sha and Dingfu San can also be used appropriately. If medication yields no effect, moxibustion on the Zhongwan (CV12) and Zusanli (ST36) acupoints is advisable. The details of Zhongwan are recorded in the preceding formulas and will not be repeated here.
