In cases of common cold and fever, the pathogenic factors of wind, cold, summerheat, dampness, and dryness remain only in the skin and surface layers; the internal organs are fundamentally not diseased. Therefore, it is called Exterior Syndrome (a syndrome caused by pathogenic factors attacking the exterior of the body). As detailed in the section on causes of fever, sweating leads to recovery, and the problem can be resolved easily. However, intravenous infusion does not distinguish between wind, summerheat, cold, dampness, dryness, or fire pathogenic factors; instead, it introduces wind-cold along with the infusion into the meridians and viscera that were not originally diseased. Although the fever may subside, intravenous infusion is entirely like "inviting a wolf into the house" for physical health; it merely hides the visible fever but brings endless subsequent troubles (see the section on how Western medicine damages the stomach, actually injuring all five zang and six fu organs).
Many pediatric departments employ intimidation, fraud, and threats simultaneously. When a child has a fever, they are diagnosed with pneumonia or △△itis and subjected to heavy intravenous infusions as a trick for financial gain and deception. If problems arise and the fever cannot be reduced, they simply issue a referral certificate to shift responsibility.
Patients with leukemia or uremia have extremely weak hearts and kidneys. If they catch a cold and have a fever and are treated with intravenous infusion, the wind-cold from the Exterior Syndrome enters the weakened heart and kidneys along with the infusion, causing coma or even endangering life. Many people do not understand this point. Doctors will tell patients that coma is caused by uremia and requires immediate dialysis, or that cancer cells have entered the brain causing danger, but they will not tell patients that the coma was caused by the intravenous infusion introducing wind-cold from the Exterior Syndrome into the weakened heart and kidneys.
Although dialysis can temporarily filter out the wind-cold moisture that has entered the blood in the heart, it cannot restore the functional capacity of the heart. The disease sinks deeper, potentially leading to death. These are重重 traps and medical deceptions, yet patients persist in them. Spending money cannot ward off disaster; how lamentable is this?
If one understands Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), fever is merely caused by the blockage of skin pores. Drinking a bowl of hot rice porridge with rock sugar and ginger, or a cup of hot milk, induces sweating after consumption, which resolves the fever. Without intravenous infusion or antibiotics, there are no endless subsequent troubles, nor the worries of leukemia or uremia. Why not take advantage of this? Yet many people bind themselves like silkworms, believing in a science that cannot cure even one patient. Why?
It is often encountered that cancer patients or those with severe conditions are progressing well in treatment, but family members, worried about malnutrition, request nutrient intravenous infusions. After just one dose of nutrient infusion, lower back soreness and back pain reappear—conditions previously considered cured by Western medicine as metastasis to the spinal cord—and the condition changes drastically. The ignorance and interference of patients and families regarding medical care are truly heartbreaking and frustrating. It is not that the disease cannot be cured, but rather the result of the ignorance of the patients and their families.
People with weak constitutions are prone to catching colds. The wind-cold pathogens and viruses in a cold reside on the surface skin and have not entered the interior organs. However, intravenous infusion introduces these cold viruses from the body surface into the internal organs. Lower back soreness and back pain are caused by cold viruses being introduced from the surface into the internal organs, specifically affecting the Shaoyin Heart and Kidney meridians. Thus, is intravenous infusion a nutrient needle or a death sentence?
(VI) Is an ice pillow a fever-reducing tool, or a poison harming patients?
Causes of Fever:
TCM Perspective: The nose breathes, and the pores of the skin also breathe. When the breathing of the skin pores is blocked, the skin cannot breathe, resulting in fever (see the Fever section). Sweating causes the fever to subside.
Western Medicine Perspective: Fever is caused by the loss of control over body temperature regulation by the central nervous system in the brain due to viral infection.
Today's textbooks teach students that if the temperature is 37°C–38°C, one should see a doctor; at 39°C–40°C, an ice pillow should be placed on the patient's head and epigastrium to lower body temperature. Therefore, many households keep ice pillows in their refrigerators at all times for emergencies.
It is common to encounter children in certain hospitals who, while receiving intravenous infusions and having ice pillows applied to their heads and epigastria, have had fevers for one or two weeks without relief. Young parents are exhausted, and the children are near death. Some even cough up blood, or have white blood cell counts of 40,000–50,000 or 20,000–30,000. For patients diagnosed by the author as not feeling thirsty, applying camphor oil to the Lung Meridian and Bladder Meridian, followed by covering the patient tightly with a large cotton quilt for less than half an hour, induces profuse sweating throughout the body. Wiping the sweat with a hot towel allows the patient to immediately recover from the fever and illness, regaining spirit. Some bodies are already weak and require tonification to recover strength. A child who had a fever for four years without recovery was cured twice using this method; after recovery and tonification, the fever never recurred.
An elderly woman in her seventies, seeing her grandson hospitalized for two weeks with persistent fever, asked skeptically after the author cured him in less than half an hour, restoring his spirit and ability to play: "If he gets a fever again at home, do we still need to use an ice pillow?" The author replied: "Sweating makes the fever subside. Think about it, can an ice pillow allow sweat to be expelled?" The woman answered: "That makes sense. Sweating makes the fever subside."
Common cold and fever are caused by wind, cold, summerheat, and dampness blocking the skin pores, preventing Yang Qi from penetrating. Therefore, during fever, sweating resolves it. Ice pillows lower the body temperature of the febrile person, making it harder for skin pores to expel sweat.
When skin pores are blocked and constricted by ice pillows, unable to expel sweat, the wind-cold on the skin surface is further introduced into the body via intravenous infusion. Furthermore, anti-inflammatory drugs harm the heart, leading to heart weakness. Internal invasion of wind-cold is the main cause of encephalitis and meningitis. This is the result of ice pillows and intravenous infusions "inviting wolves into the house." The rise in white blood cell count is because the body attempts to expel the internally invading wind-cold and antibiotic drugs from the body. Therefore, when sweating resolves the fever, the white blood cell count naturally decreases.
One can feel that during fever, the heart beats violently to increase pressure, promoting the ascent of Yang Yuan Qi to open pores for sweating. The higher the fever temperature, the more violent the heartbeat. Modern medicine, instead of promoting pore opening, uses ice pillows to seal pores shut and uses anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce the heart's beating force, exhausting patients and worsening their condition.
It is common for fever to return after subsiding because the wind-cold introduced into the body has not been fully resolved, and the regulation of the Five Qi by the five zang organs remains unbalanced, causing fever to recur.
During fever, the disease is only on the body surface or in the Half-Exterior Half-Interior stage, not entering the interior. The five zang and six fu organs are not harmed. Yin Syndromes have no sweating and no fever. When viruses or bacteria enter the internal organs, fever反而 does not occur. Today's hypertension is caused by wind-cold entering the interior, and diabetes is caused by dryness entering the interior.
Many feverish patients cannot reduce their fever due to ice pillows, intravenous infusions, and antibiotic anti-inflammatories. Many medical authorities who do not understand medicine play deceptive tricks on patients—performing lumbar puncture (spinal tap) to extract cerebrospinal fluid, damaging the waist. The waist is the mansion of the Kidney; the Kidney governs bones, bones generate marrow, and the brain is the sea of marrow. Damage to the Kidneys causes damage to the Heart, as both belong to the Shaoyin Meridian. Due to anti-inflammatory treatments, wind-cold invades the heart. Many cases of rheumatic heart disease today are caused by wind-cold-dampness invading the heart due to anti-inflammatory treatments.
Wind-cold invades the heart and, following the Shaoyin Meridian, invades the Kidneys injured by spinal puncture. With Kidney injury, external use of intravenous infusions and ice pillows introduces large amounts of wind-cold. This is the true culprit behind encephalitis, meningitis, brain damage from fever, and leukemia.
VI. Stroke and Brain Stroke: Stroke, damp-stroke, cold-stroke, heat-stroke, qi-stroke, evil-stroke, and apoplexy all cause hemiplegia and paralysis.
(I) Why does stroke occur?
Sunlight, clear water, and air are the three essential elements of life, commonly known in China as Water, Fire, and Wind. In the human body, these correspond to Jing (Essence), Qi (Energy), and Shen (Spirit).
Wind is commonly known as air. Air changes due to the effects of temperature, sunlight, and water, undergoing expansion, contraction, rising, falling, and stabilizing actions. These correspond to the functions of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water in the Five Elements theory, and also to the changes of the Five Qi of weather: Wind, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, and Cold. Commonly referred to as wind, air, or climate change.
Wind—air—is inseparable from our life and body moment by moment. If the body regulates the Five Qi normally, hundred diseases do not arise. If regulation is unbalanced, hundred diseases emerge. Pathological changes arising from this are divided into three situations:
Cold: The five zang organs can still normally operate the Five Qi, but the Five Qi cannot coordinate, producing symptoms. Depending on different viscera and meridians, different symptoms manifest, called Shangfeng (Wind Injury), Shanghan (Cold Injury), Shangshu (Summerheat Injury), Shidu (Dampness Injury), Zaohuo (Dryness/Fire Injury), etc.
Stroke: The five zang organs or a specific meridian lose the normal function of operating the Five Qi, presenting symptoms of paralysis, hemiplegia, or half-body immobility. Called Zhongjing (Meridian Stroke), Zhongluo (Luo Vessel Stroke), Zhongzang (Zang Organ Stroke), Zhongfu (Fu Organ Stroke). Causes include Fengzhong (Wind Stroke), Shizhong (Damp Stroke), Hanzhong (Cold Stroke), Shuzhong (Heat Stroke), Qizhong (Qi Stroke), Ezhong (Evil Stroke), Zuzhong (Apoplexy), etc.
Qi Exhaustion: Exhaustion of the Qi of the five zang organs means death, where Qi activity in the body ceases.
The function of Qi in the human body produces various pathological changes depending on diet, climate, and emotions. It is commonly said that "hundred diseases arise from wind," meaning various major and malignant diseases evolve from minor illnesses. Understanding the causes and consequences of diseases is necessary to cure them and achieve health.
Stroke and Wind Injury refer to symptoms manifested due to imbalances in changes when the physiological Jing, Qi, and Shen are strong or weak under the influence of atmospheric wind.
How does wind injure or strike the human body?
Huangdi Neijing Lingshu Chapter 46 "Five Changes": Huangdi asked Shaoyu: "I have heard that the beginning of all diseases must arise from wind, rain, cold, and summerheat, entering through hair follicles and pores into the Couli (interstices between skin and muscle). They may return, stay, become wind swelling and sweat, become Xiao Dan Jaundice, become alternating cold and fever, become chronic obstruction, become accumulation and strange evils overflowing, countless in number. I wish to hear the reason. Do some get sick simultaneously, or sick here, or sick there?" He also said: "People prone to Feng Jue (Wind Revulsion) with profuse sweating fall suddenly due to wind. How can we diagnose this?" Shaoyu answered: "If flesh is not firm and Couli are loose, one is prone to wind diseases." He also said: "How can we diagnose those prone to Xiao Dan?" Shaoyu answered: "If the five zang organs are all soft and weak, one is prone to Xiao Dan... Soft and weak people must have rigid and strong counterparts. Rigid and strong people are often angry. Soft and weak people are easily injured... Anger causes Qi to reverse upward, accumulating in the chest. Blood and Qi flow counter-current, filling the skin and muscles. Blood stagnates, turning into heat. Heat consumes flesh and skin, thus becoming Xiao Dan."
Lingshu Miao Ci Lun Chapter 63: Qibo replied: "When evil resides in the form, it first settles in the skin and hair. If it stays and does not leave, it enters the Sun vessels. If it stays and does not leave, it enters the Luo vessels. If it stays and does not leave, it enters the Main Meridians, internally connecting to the five zang and scattering in the stomach and intestines. Both Yin and Yang are affected, and the five zang are injured. This is the sequence of evil entering from the skin and reaching the extreme of the five zang..." Stroke is named according to severity as Zhongjing, Zhongluo, Zhongzang, Zhongfu.
When physical strength is strong, phenomena of inability to adapt to wind, summerheat, cold, dampness, dryness, and fire appear only in the superficial meridians. The operation of the five zang meridians is normal. This is Exterior Syndrome, Shangfeng, Shanghan, Shangshu, Shidu. It is only called "Shang" (Injury) and not "Zhong" (Strike), hence called Ganmao (Common Cold).
When physical strength is weak, the meridians and viscera lack the power to operate against wind, summerheat, cold, dampness, dryness, and fire, resulting in malfunction and cessation of operation of the viscera and meridians. This is called "Zhong" (Strike). The weakening of the body's growth and development ability, and the decline in operational strength, indicates severe disease entering the interior. This is Fengzhong, Shizhong, Shuzhong, Qizhong, Hanzhong, Ezhong, Zuzhong... Named Fengzhong or Lei Fengzhong (Similar Stroke), collectively called Fengzhong.
Stroke is divided into Zhongjing, Zhongluo, Zhongzang, Zhongfu. It is further divided into Bi Zheng (Closed Syndrome) and Tuo Zheng (Collapse Syndrome). Bi Zheng is an excess syndrome of evil; treatment can involve purging or clearing. Tuo Zheng is a deficiency-collapse syndrome requiring warming and tonification.
During stroke, if evil is in the Luo vessels, the skin and muscles are insensible. If evil is in the meridians, heaviness prevents standing. If evil enters the Fu organs, the person does not recognize others. If evil enters the Zang organs, speech is difficult, and saliva is drooled. Yet, the term "Brain Stroke" does not appear.
Stroke is事实上 not a problem of the brain, just as fever is not absurdly caused by the brain's central nervous system losing control of body temperature (see the section on theories of fever).
In fact, the three characters "Brain Stroke" mean scolding someone's brain—meaning thought has stopped functioning or malfunctioned—not a medical term. There is no medical record of "Brain Stroke" in thousands of years of TCM history.
Today, Western medicine does not understand the true meaning of the two characters "Fengzhong" in TCM, steals these two characters, adds the character "Nao" (Brain) unnecessarily, and names it "Brain Stroke," misleading and deceiving patients. (See: The Medical Scam That Harms and Deceives Everyone Worldwide - Hypertension and Diabetes Section).
(II) Classification and Differentiation of Stroke
Ganmao (Common Cold) is Shangfeng, Shanghan, Shangshu, Shidu, Shre... It occurs when the body's viscera and meridians are strong and operate powerfully, allowing the body to self-regulate inappropriate wind, cold, summerheat, dampness, and dryness, expelling them through sweat or urine, or keeping them on the surface unable to invade internally. Thus, it is called Exterior Syndrome or External Fengzhong.
Fengzhong (Stroke) occurs due to the weakness of viscera and meridians, lacking the power to operate against wind, cold, summerheat, dampness, and dryness, causing the body's physiological state to fail like a broken-down car or blocked river channels. Also called Internal Fengzhong, commonly known as Stroke.
Stroke is divided into True Stroke and Similar Stroke.
True Stroke: Sudden collapse upon onset, all due to weak constitution, imbalance of Ying and Wei, Blood and Qi, emotional disturbances (joy, anger, worry, thought, sadness, fear, shock), or injury from alcohol, sex, and labor. This causes depletion of True Qi, loose Couli, and wind evil entering through deficiency. There are differences among Zhongfu, Zhongzang, Zhongjing, Zhongluo, Blood Vessel, Qi Deficiency, and Blood Deficiency, and treatments differ. Generally, Zhongfu is easy to treat, Zhongzang is difficult, and some are untreatable.
Similar Stroke: Includes Han Zhong (Cold Strike), Shu Zhong (Heat Strike), Shi Zhong (Damp Strike), Huo Zhong (Fire Strike), Qi Zhong (Qi Strike), Food Syncope, Labor Injury, Sexual Exhaustion, Phlegm Syncope, Blood Fainting, Evil Strike, Sudden Death, etc. There are many types of Similar Stroke, each with its own treatment. One must not treat them as wind diseases; using wind-dispelling herbs would be a great error.
There is abundant literature on acupuncture and herbal treatment experiences of sages for stroke. For detailed differentiation and treatment of stroke phases (Bi Zheng, Tuo Zheng) and post-stroke syndrome regulation, please refer to books such as *Yizong Jinjian* and *Wan Bing Hui Chun* - Stroke Section.
Similar Stroke - Han Zhong, Shu Zhong, Shi Zhong... causing hemiplegia, paralysis... are rarely heard of by non-TCM practitioners. Briefly described below:
Han Zhong (Cold Strike): Refers to sudden cold attack in winter. Cold evil directly enters the Three Yin Meridians. Symptoms include coma, locked jaw, limb spasms, aversion to cold, floating-tight pulse, or drooling. Severe cases have stiff limbs. If not treated urgently, death occurs soon, with short tongue and contracted scrotum. Treatment should warm the middle and dispel cold or use warming moxibustion to heal. Commonly, people say "it's cold, prevent stroke." This "stroke" is actually Han Zhong. Many patients are mistakenly treated as stroke and do not recover.
Shu Zhong (Heat/Summerheat Strike): Moving and getting it is called Zhong Re (Heat Strike); resting and getting it is called Shu Zhong. Refers to sudden intense summer heat causing coma, flaccidity, syncope, opisthotonos, convulsions of hands and feet, vomiting/diarrhea, or dry oppression... This is Shu Feng (Summerheat Wind), not to be treated as wind. Treating summerheat restores flexibility to paralyzed limbs. (See *Wan Bing Hui Chun* Summerheat Section. Commonly, people say "it's hot, prevent stroke." This "stroke" is actually Shu Zhong.)
Shi Zhong (Damp Strike): Mostly caused by Spleen generating phlegm from damp-earth, phlegm generating heat, heat generating wind. Divided into Internal Shi Zhong and External Shi Zhong. When the body is weak, negligence leads to natural occurrence.
External Shi Zhong: Contracting mountain miasma or rain/moisture vapor. Such people suffer particularly when south winds blow, walls/floors are damp, or when traveling through water, lying long on wet ground, or wearing sweaty clothes/shoes. Dampness enters from outside.
Symptoms: Heavy head, dizziness, body and joint pain, soreness/weakness of hands and feet, fatigue and numbness of limbs.
Internal Shi Zhong: Caused by raw/cold food or excessive rich flavors/alcohol stagnation. Spleen deficiency fails to transform and transport. Stagnation in the Sanjiao, pouring into muscles, seeping into skin. Dampness enters from inside.
Dampness injuring Spleen: Swelling, diarrhea, yellow body, choppy pulse.
Dampness injuring Lung: Cough, asthma, body heat, aversion to cold.
Dampness injuring Kidney: Heavy waist and legs, sore joints.
Dampness injuring Liver: Shortened/soft tendons, dim vision, hypochondriac pain.
Dampness entering Fu organs: Numbness and insensibility.
Dampness entering Zang organs: Difficulty bending and stretching.
Phlegm Syncope: Due to internal deficiency and cold, phlegm-Qi blockage. Cold extremities, numbness, dizziness, desire to fall, deep-thin pulse, or pulling pain in chest/back/hands/feet/waist/neck/joints/tendons, moving unpredictably, blocked Qi and pulses, phlegm-saliva above and below chest-diaphragm. Mistaken for paralysis, but it is not.
Qi Zhong (Qi Strike): Excessive seven emotions, Qi reversal causing coma, or tight jaw. Caused by arguing with others, sudden anger causing Qi reversal and fainting. Named Qi Zhong.
Qi pulse is mostly deep; Wind pulse is mostly floating. Wind strike: body warm, with phlegm-saliva. Qi strike: body cold, no phlegm-saliva. Commonly called Qi Syncope or "dying of anger."
Zu Po Jue (Sudden Apoplexy): Due to encountering abnormal Qi. Suddenly cold extremities, goosebumps, blue-black face/head, unsettled spirit, delirious speech, tight teeth, locked jaw, unconscious, dizzy and collapsing. This is Evil Apoplexy, Ke Wu, Flying Corpse, Ghost Strike, mourning visits, temple entries. Many have this disease. Commonly called encountering "God Head."
The above Similar Strokes are all not Stroke, provided for reference only.
Left hemiplegia, right paralysis, hemiplegia, facial deviation, syncope... are caused by faults in the operation of the Five Qi in the body. There are distinctions among Fengzhong, Shizhong, Hanzhong, Shuzhong, Qizhong, Zuzhong... These are issues of meridians and viscera, not the brain.
Liver governs Blood, Lung governs Qi. In the human body, Left is Liver, Right is Lung. Men are Left, Women are Right. Men govern Qi. Male right side Qi is strong, left side Blood is weak. Therefore, males have more left-side hemiplegia than right-side. Left-side hemiplegia is due to Hyperactivity of Liver Yang. Treatment involves Clearing the Liver, which restores hand-foot movement to those with left-side hemiplegia. Recovery effect for male right-side hemiplegia patients is poorer.
