Only by using guiding herbs (herbs that guide other medicines to specific meridians), one causes the spread of Ru Yan (breast cancer/malignant tumor) and results in an incurable state. For Luo Li (scrofula/cervical lymphadenitis) and E He (subcutaneous nodules), prolonged ulceration leads to deficiency of healthy Qi. Patients do not regret the error of using guiding herbs, but instead recklessly claim that Bai Ju (a type of yin abscess characterized by cold and coagulation) is fatal for all hundred patients. Hong Yong (red carbuncle/abscess) is a syndrome of Yang excess, where Qi and Blood are hot and toxins stagnate; Bai Ju is a syndrome of Yin deficiency, where Qi and Blood are cold and toxins coagulate. The key to treating both lies in opening the Cou Li (pores and interstitial spaces). Once the Cou Li are opened, Hong Yong dissipates as toxins are resolved and pain is relieved; Bai Ju heals immediately as cold is dispersed and coagulation resolves. If one relies solely on meridian theory while neglecting syndrome differentiation, although the drugs may correspond to the meridians, they actually contradict the actual syndrome. Are there not many people in the world who die from Yin Ju? To distinguish the treatment of carbuncles and ulcers based on Yin deficiency and Yang excess, without investigating the specific manifestations, is indeed accurate. My great-grandfather paid close attention to this field, recording emergency rescue formulas and medications that could eliminate major illnesses at their onset in books, which became family treasures. I read them in my youth and found their methods vastly different from those in other contemporary books and practices. Over forty years of clinical verification, I have rescued those in critical condition, eliminated lesions at their onset, stopped severe pain and itching, and promoted healing of unbearable ulcerations. It has been effective in every case, with no failures. Thus, I reflect that the method of treating carbuncles and ulcers based on meridians has been prevalent worldwide for a long time, whereas distinguishing and treating based on Yin and Yang is unique to my family. Moreover, my practice was limited to my village; if it were to extend to the entire town, I would be unable to manage it alone. Hearing of unjust deaths, I feel deep sorrow. Therefore, I have publicly disclosed the secret handed down from my ancestors, the clinically verified formulas that cure diseases upon administration, and the refined methods of preparing medicinal materials, compiling them entirely into this collection. I have added a preface and had them printed, offering them to scholars and practitioners concerned with saving lives. By following the formulas for compounding, adhering to the methods for preparation, and prescribing according to syndromes, one might avoid unjust deaths, allowing future generations to know that carbuncles and ulcers indeed do not necessarily have fatal outcomes. Preface: I, Gu Cheng, was born in an era like that of Yao and Shun, living as a citizen of peace. I often contemplate that His Majesty the Emperor labors day and night, fearing that even a tiny hardship might afflict the subjects of the four seas. At the beginning of his reign, he issued an edict to collect medical prescriptions, compiled the Imperially Commissioned *Yizong Jinjian* (Golden Mirror of Medical Tradition), and distributed it throughout the empire, so that people in remote villages suffering from illness could consult prescriptions for treatment, causing chronic ailments to rise and recover quickly. Governors of various provinces, further embodying the Emperor's benevolence, annually donated their clean salaries to establish medicine bureaus to relieve poor and sick patients. Their love for the people, like children, can be considered extremely thorough. I, Gu Cheng, am merely a commoner, naturally slow-witted, having studied the books of sages incompletely, practicing medicine to support myself, remaining obscure and unnoticed. Reflecting that body and hair are received from parents, and peaceful life stems from imperial grace, yet being unable to repay the kindness of the Sovereign-Father, I spared no mental fatigue during intervals between consultations. I searched through the definitive theories of famous physicians past and present, first highlighting the principles of the *Neijing* (Inner Canon), elucidating the subtleties of pulse diagnosis, detailing meridians and acupoints, and compiling internal organ states and external symptom forms. From the crown of the head to the Yongquan (KI-1) point, covering all external conditions, I created illustrations and explanations, formulated prescriptions according to syndromes. This includes treatments for burns, scalds, knife wounds, beatings and falls, animal bites, insect stings, accidental ingestion of toxic substances, and methods for rescuing from five types of apparent death. Beyond ancient and modern established formulas, I added experiential prescriptions from the family collections of my ancestor Ninghua Gong and my father Qingyan Gong. Categorized and classified, totaling forty volumes, I named it *Yangyi Daquan* (Complete Collection of Surgeons' Knowledge), so that patients know every surgical disease has a name, and every doctor has a method. Treating according to diagrams clarifies meridians. Early-stage lesions are expected to resolve completely; formed lesions are expected to drain easily; drained lesions are expected to heal quickly, preventing dangerous ruptures and avoiding complications such as paralysis. Furthermore, all prepared formulas nourish healthy Qi and expel pathogens, harmonizing Wei (Defensive) and Ying (Nutritive) energies. Though considered a minor art, its benefit to humanity is significant. This compilation took thirty years. Due to financial constraints, publication was delayed. Now, thanks to the generous donations of colleagues from the Two Huai regions, we finally commissioned the printing, fulfilling this ambition. I thus recount the origins of this compilation at the beginning of the book, showing that its success was not accidental.
