Pediatric epilepsy and mania are treated with *Gansui* (Kansui Root) powder, one qian, mixed with pig heart blood and roasted, then combined with *Zhusha* (Cinnabar) powder, one qian, pounded into pills the size of hemp seeds; each dose consists of ten to twenty pills. Children often suffer from heat-induced mania with delirious speech and impending convulsions; administering *Zhuli* (Bamboo Sap) is effective, and this method also applies to adults. If a child suddenly cries out loudly without cause, it indicates imminent death due to excessive fire pathogen causing extreme deficiency of healthy qi.
Night crying in children is caused by evil heat invading the Heart. It is treated by decocting *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome) stir-fried with ginger juice, along with *Gancao* (Licorice Root) and *Zhuye* (Bamboo Leaf). Another method involves applying *Dengxincao* (Juncus Effusus Ash) to the nipple for the infant to suckle. If night crying leads to epilepsy due to intestinal cold, *Danggui* (Angelica Sinensis) powder mixed with milk is administered. Another prescription suggests placing *Jikecao* (a specific herb) under the sleeping mat without the mother's knowledge. Another method involves placing a palm-sized piece of dried cow dung under the mat. For incessant crying resembling a possessed state, the lower half of *Chantui* (Cicada Slough) is separated from the upper half, powdered, stir-fried to the measure of "one zi" (approx. 0.5-1g), and taken with mint tea. Incessant crying with tears indicates abdominal pain; *Suhe Xiang Wan* (Styrax Pill) is taken with wine. For *Tiandiao* wind (a type of pediatric convulsion), *Tiandiaoteng Gao* (Tianteng Vine Paste) is used. Another formula for night crying includes: *Renshen* (Ginseng Root) 1.5 qian, *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome) 1.5 qian (stir-fried with ginger juice), *Zhi Gancao* (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 0.5 qian, *Zhuye* (Bamboo Leaf) 20 leaves, and *Shengjiang* (Fresh Ginger) 1 slice, decocted in water.
One formula consists of equal parts of *Kushen* (Sophora Root), *Huandan* (Lead Monoxide), *Wubeizi* (Chinese Gall), and *Qingdai* (Indigo Naturalis). Another method uses *Jiangcha* (River Tea) and *Fengcao* (Licorice Root) powdered for external application. For oral ulcers, *Baifan* (Alum) powder is sprinkled on the lesions. For thrush characterized by white patches covering the mouth like goose mouth, hair wrapped around a finger dipped in well water is used to wipe the tongue. *Huandan* (Lead Monoxide) can also be applied externally.
Nasal insufflation medicine is made from equal parts of *Yujin* (Turmeric Tuber), *Lilu* (Veratrum Nigrum Rhizome), and *Gua Di* (Melon Spine), powdered and mixed with water for nasal administration.
For pediatric stroke, *Suhe Xiang Wan* (Styrax Pill) is administered with ginger juice, followed by *Jufang Shengfeng Tang* (Bureau Formula Wind-Extinguishing Decoction) or *Xiao Xuming Tang* (Minor Xu-Ming Decoction) with added *Shexiang* (Musk), prepared according to standard methods. Another method involves dissolving *Suhe Xiang Wan* (Styrax Pill) in wine with a little ginger juice, followed by *Bawei Shunqi San* (Eight-Ingredient Qi-Smoothing Powder), and finally *Xiao Xuming Tang* (Minor Xu-Ming Decoction). In severe cases, only *Muxiang* (Aucklandia Root), *Tiannanxing* (Arisaema Rhizome), and ten slices of *Shengjiang* (Fresh Ginger) are decocted. If *Tiannanxing* is unavailable, concentrated *Muxiang* (Aucklandia Root) decoction is used. Alternatively, *Jufang Zhufu Tang* (Bureau Formula Aconite and Atractylodes Decoction) is used with twenty slices of *Shengjiang* (Fresh Ginger) to mix with *Suhe Xiang Wan* (Styrax Pill) for oral administration. For symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or cold limbs, these medicines are used to deliver 50 to 100 pills of *Yangzheng Dan* (Healthy-Qi Nourishing Pill), which is highly effective. For three-year-old children with stroke unresponsive to medication, one jin of pine needles is boiled in one dou of wine to yield three sheng, consumed at once; sweating immediately leads to recovery.
