The human body relies on Qi and Blood. For any disease that remains uncured after days of treatment, it is necessary to regulate the Blood. External manifestations of Blood disorders include phlegm and vomiting, irritability and thirst, mental confusion and forgetfulness, and a frequent desire to rinse the mouth with water. Regardless of gender or age, one must pay special attention to the aspect of Blood. The essential herbs are Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Curcuma Zedoaria Rhizome (Ezhhu), Persicae Semen (Taoren), Trogopterori Faeces (Wulingzhi), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang), and Rheum Palmatum Root and Rhizome (Beidahuang). In cases of severe vomiting, add fresh ginger (Shengjiang) in greater quantity. First, use these agents to purge old stasis from the body; subsequently, regulate with Poria (Fuling), Poria Cum Radix (Fushen), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), and Licorice Root (Gancao).
The *Suwen* states: "Yin deficiency with rapid Yang pulse constitutes Binglou (sudden heavy uterine bleeding)." This refers to the principle that blood flows recklessly when heated by pathogenic factors. Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) can assist Yin, while Shengliao Zhike San (Raw Zhiqiao Powder) can restrain Yang. Between these, Fuling Erchen Tang (Poria and Two Aged Ingredients Decoction) is used to harmonize, ensuring both Yin and Yang achieve balance, so that Blood naturally circulates within the meridians. If the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) are insecure, lower bleeding may occur. Or, if Blood follows Qi movement, and Qi rebels and rushes upward, Blood will not follow the meridians but will instead gush out through vomiting. It is known that hematemesis (vomiting blood) originates from the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner) due to Heat. However, if one uses Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Polygoni Multiflori Caulis (Puhuang), and Phragmitis Rhizoma (Maohua), yet fails to use Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Qingpi), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang), and Eucleae Fructus (Wumei) as assistants, nor does one use Tongli Wan (Unblocking Pill) to open the Middle Jiao and guide bowel movements, how can Qi descend? How can Blood flow downward? I fear that such rebellious upward rushing of Blood may become uncontrollable. Following the aforementioned treatment method, once bleeding stops, regulation should be conducted using Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Poria (Fuling), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Jupi), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), and Licorice Root (Gancao). For deficiency, add Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang); for heat, add Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu); for stagnation, add Morus Alba Cortex (Sangbai) and Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie). The key lies in weighing the circumstances appropriately.
For patients presenting with dryness and thirst, if Wumei (Chinese Plum Fruit), Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gange), and Licorice Root (Gancao) prove ineffective, excessive drinking ensues, leading to edema in both feet. This condition should not be diagnosed as Interior Heat. Rather, it is caused by Kidney Water failing to ascend and Heart Fire failing to descend. One must primarily use Jiaogan Dan (Harmonizing Soul Pill), administering it with a decoction of Wumei, thick honey, fresh ginger, and licorice root. Once Kidney Water ascends and Heart Fire descends, the thirst will cease, and the foot edema will subside.
