Chubi Tongtian San: Treats sudden or latent stroke, characterized by falling to the ground, lockjaw (rigidity of the jaw), and unconsciousness.
Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Veratrum Root (Lilu), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe) (each 1 qian), Ziziphus Jujuba Fruit (Sujiao) (scraped of skin, three pieces).
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder, load into a reed tube, take a small amount each time, and blow into the nose.
Mahuang Gao (from *Xuanming Fang*): Treats stroke resulting in unconsciousness and sudden collapse.
Harvest Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang) on one cheng (a unit of weight) on an auspicious Yimao day, remove the root tips one cun long, take three shi and three dou of east-flowing water, place in a non-greasy pot (fill five to seven dou depending on pot size), boil vigorously for five times, skim off impurities, gradually add water until reduced to about three to five dou, filter out Mahuang dregs, pour into a basin, let settle for a long time, filter through a fine sieve to remove residue. Take the clear liquid and boil again in a pot until reduced to one dou, clarify and filter again. Continue boiling the juice until it reaches half a sheng as the endpoint. Stir frequently to prevent sticking to the bottom and burning. Avoid chickens, dogs, and yin-influenced persons during boiling. Cover during clarification to prevent dust from entering. The medicine can be stored for one to two years without issue. If the paste is too thick, dilute with water and boil to mix evenly. For any sudden stroke collapse, add this paste to decoctions for oral administration, or use this paste to make pills.
Sanhua Tang (from *Bacui* formula): Treats stroke presenting with symptoms of the six meridians externally; first treat according to syndrome using Jiajian Xuming Tang; if there is internal obstruction of bowel or bladder movements, use this formula to guide and unblock.
Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo) (processed with ginger), Rheum Palmatum Root & Rhizome (Dahuang), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo) (equal parts).
Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take three liang per dose, add three sheng of water, decoct until one and a half sheng remains, administer throughout the day, stop when mild diarrhea occurs. If internal pathogens are eliminated and external pathogens are exhausted, switch to Yufeng Tang to regulate the middle pathway; long-term use will dispel all major wind pathogens. Even if slight pathogens remain, adjust treatment based on Yufeng Tang. However, therapeutic methods must not neglect either unblocking or restricting; sometimes inducing slight sweating, sometimes promoting bowel movement, constitutes routine treatment. Over time, clear and turbid qi will separate naturally, and Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive qi) will harmonize.
