Follow the previous prescription exactly. Add Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba).
A floating pulse indicates Wind pathogen; a large pulse indicates deficiency. Wind invasion leads to slight fever, while deficiency causes muscle spasms. It is appropriate to use Guizhi Jia Fuzi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Aconite Root). If there are cold extremities, dry throat, and irritability, this indicates internal binding in the Yangming channel accompanied by delirium and mental confusion. At this time, one should administer Gancao Ganjiang Tang (Licorice and Dried Ginger Decoction). By midnight, when Yang qi returns, both feet should become warm. If the calves remain slightly cramped and heavy, administer Shaoyao Gancao Tang (Peony and Licorice Decoction), so that the calves will extend. Then, use Chengqi Tang (Gut-Resolving Decoction) to induce slight loose stools, which will stop the delirium.
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma)
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma)
A floating pulse signifies Wind, hence Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is combined. A large pulse signifies deficiency. When deficiency is accompanied by calf cramping, it is due to Cold causing tendon urgency. Only Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) can warm the meridians to relax the tendons; therefore, it is added. Cold extremities, dry throat, and irritability constitute Yin restlessness (Yin Zao). Although there is internal binding and delirium, Yang qi has not yet returned; thus, Gancao Ganjiang Tang is used to warm and regulate the Middle Jiao Qi. Since the Spleen governs the four limbs, and sweet flavors can relieve urgency, this treatment is chosen. Once Yang qi has returned, the warming agents are removed. Although the calves remain cramped, Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) is used merely to harmonize the Ying (Nutritive) level. One must wait until the calves extend and the Cold syndrome is completely eliminated before using Chengqi Tang (Gut-Resolving Decoction) to stop the delirium. Internal binding cannot be cleared without Chengqi Tang (Gut-Resolving Decoction). This is a single syndrome treated sequentially: first with strong warming agents, then mild warming, followed by mild cooling, and finally strong cooling. Unless one possesses wisdom to see through walls (profound insight), it is difficult to discuss these matters. Would later generations encountering such syndromes possess such vision and skill?
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus)
Indicated for Rhebi (Wind-Dampness) interlocking. Symptoms include body pain, absence of vomiting or thirst, and a deficient, choppy pulse. If the patient has hard stool but free urination, this decoction is appropriate. Zhang Zhongjing stated: After the initial dose, the patient may feel numbness; after about half a day, upon taking subsequent doses, once all three doses are consumed, the patient may experience a sensation of dizziness or clouded consciousness. Do not be alarmed. This occurs because Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) move together within the skin to expel water dampness, which has not yet been fully eliminated. In this case, Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) should be increased by four liang. This was originally one formula with two methods. Because the stool was hard and urination free, Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) was removed. If the stool is not hard and urination is difficult, Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) should be added.

Rhebi (Wind-Dampness) interlocking causes joint pain, inability to flex or extend, sweating, shortness of breath, difficulty in urination, aversion to wind, or slight body edema. For body edema, add Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix). For difficulty in urination, add Fuling (Poria).
