The Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. When the Qi of the three Yin meridians reaches this point, it is exhausted and named Jueyin (Reversal Yin), which is the end of the Six Meridians. Its pulse originates from the tip of the great toe, goes up to circle the external genitalia and reach the lower abdomen, follows along the hypochondrium to the corner of the mouth, meets with the Du Meridian at the vertex, and runs on the lateral side of the anterior body.
Its symptoms include vexation and fullness, contraction of the scrotum, thirst with drinking, curling of the tongue, delirium, constipation, alternating warmth and coldness of the hands and feet, and a deep and forceful pulse. This is the proper disease of Jueyin caused by heat pathogen transmitting into it; Da Cheng Qi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) should be used urgently to purge downward.
If there are alternating chills and fever resembling malaria, with a floating and moderate pulse, this is the marked disease of Jueyin where the heat pathogen is in the meridian; Chai Hu Gui Zhi Ma Huang Ge Ban Tang (Bupleurum, Cinnamon Twig, and Ephedra Half-Portion Decoction) is indicated. If there is no vomiting and urination and defecation are clear, it will heal spontaneously without medication.
At the onset of the disease, if there is no fever or thirst or headache, but rather aversion to cold and cold limbs, or pain from the lower abdomen to the genitals, or vomiting and diarrhea with body pain, vomiting of saliva and foam, cyanosis of the lips, face, and fingernails/toenails, coldness extending beyond the elbows and knees, curled tongue and retracted scrotum, and a deep and minute pulse, this is the direct transmission of cold pathogen to the proper disease of Jueyin; Zhu Yu Si Ni Tang (Evodia Four-Reversals Decoction) should be used urgently to warm.
If there is pain in the head, neck, and body, or low back pain and stiffness of the back, or pain in the joints with spasmodic tightness, or shivering aversion to cold, or mild fever, or vexatious heat, with a floating-tight or floating-rapid pulse, these are all exterior syndromes. It is appropriate to induce sweating.
If there is no exterior syndrome, or if there is sweating on the body, or dry mouth and tongue, or bitter taste in the mouth and dry throat, or obstruction in the throat, or patients who have lost blood or are constitutionally deficient, or those with dribbling urination or dysentery, or Yin deficiency with fatigue, or nocturnal emission and spermatorrhea, or pulsating Qi beside the umbilicus, or Wind-Warmth, Damp-Warmth, or Summerheat, or painful sores, or Jue syndrome, or postpartum state, or menstruation just starting or stopping, or concurrent Taiyang and Shaoyang diseases presenting with stiff pain in the head and neck, dizziness and vertigo, epigastric fullness and obstruction, headache with fever, and a string-tight and thin pulse belonging to the Shaoyang meridian, or a deep pulse, or a weak pulse, sweating methods must not be used.
If there is steaming fever and constipation, or tidal fever with abdominal fullness and pain, or tidal fever with delirium, or Yangming spontaneous sweating with stomach dryness leading to delirium and constipation, or Yangming no sweating with difficult urination and inner restlessness inevitably leading to jaundice, or a slippery pulse with delirium, or tidal fever with sweating on the hands, feet, and axillae leading to delirium and constipation, or unclear vision with constipation, or diarrhea with hard and painful abdomen, or fullness, obstruction, dryness, and excess with yellowish mania, removing clothes and blankets, waving hands and throwing legs, or after sweating, vomiting, or purging treatments, slight vexation with frequent urination and difficult defecation, or passing flatus, or lower abdominal fullness and pain with free urination and black stool indicating blood stasis, all these conditions can be treated with purgative methods.
