Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 2.5 liang, remove nodes) Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1.1 liang) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1.1 liang) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Weirui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma) [each 18 zhu] Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix, remove heart) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Fuling (Poria) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, wrapped in broken brocade) [each 6 zhu]
These fourteen ingredients. Use one dou of water to first decoct Mahuang until it boils once or twice. Remove the foam on the surface. Add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid. Strain and divide into three warm doses. The interval between doses should be equivalent to the time required to cook three dou of rice. Sweating indicates recovery.

These three ingredients. Use one dou of water. First decoct Mahuang until the volume reduces by two sheng. Remove the foam on the surface. Add the other herbs. Decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid. Strain and take one sheng warm, three times a day.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 2 liang, remove nodes) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang, honey-fried) Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, one piece, processed, skin removed)
These three ingredients. Use seven sheng of water. First decoct Mahuang until it boils once or twice. Remove the foam on the surface. Add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid. Strain and take one sheng warm, three times a day.

This decoction treats conditions where pathogenic factors from the Shaoyang meridian gradually enter the fu-organs of Yangming, or where erroneous use of purgative methods causes pathogens to invade internally and fail to resolve after crossing meridians. Therefore, in the Xiao Chai Hu Tang formula, the substances that assist yang qi and linger in the stomach, namely Renshen and Gancao, are removed. Instead, descending and sinking substances such as Shaoyao, Zhishi, and Dahuang are added to cleanse away heat stagnation. This shares the same principle as Guizhi Dahuang Tang: the latter uses Guizhi and Gancao combined with Dahuang to simultaneously resolve pathogens resulting from erroneous purgation in the Taiyang meridian; this formula uses Chaihu, Huangqin, and Banxia combined with Dahuang to simultaneously resolve pathogens resulting from erroneous purgation in the Shaoyang meridian. These are two unchangeable fixed methods.
