Hu Qia notes: This formula is the compound of Fan Wang's Zhupi Tang (Bamboo Peel Decoction) mentioned earlier and Gualou Gen Tang (Trichosanthes Root Decoction). However, the indications differ slightly.
It also treats men suffering from relapse due to sexual exhaustion (Fanglao Fuzai), for which Shushi Xiegen Tang (Mouse Dropping and Allium Root Decoction) is suitable, serving as a miraculous remedy for Yin-Yang Exchange Disease (Yin-Yang Yi Bing).
Hu Qia notes: This formula is identical to Fan Wang's Shufen Tang (Mouse Dropping Decoction) mentioned earlier. The treatment method is also the same.
It is further recorded that if a man suffers from fever and trismus (lockjaw) due to sexual exhaustion relapse, approaching death with the tongue protruding several inches; or if upon initial onset, all joints ache as if beaten by a club, the whole body feels heavy, mental state is confused and disoriented, and the pulse is rapid or even imperceptible, these are intractable conditions.
If there is incessant salivation, or delirium and restlessness, these are also considered intractable.
It also treats women whose illness has not yet fully recovered and relapses due to sexual activity by their husband, causing acute pain in the lower abdomen and perineum (the area between the anus and scrotum/vulva, referred to as "Xiaji"), radiating to the waist, hips, and limbs, making movement impossible, without signs of heat syndrome.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (each half liang), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (three fen), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (one and a half liang).
Crush the herbs, add four sheng of water, boil down to one and a half sheng, strain, and drink one cup at once. Take another dose after a long interval post-meal, cover warmly to induce slight sweating.
Hu Qia notes: As described by Pang Shi above, this indicates that women can also suffer from relapse due to sexual exhaustion, supplementing the omissions in Qianjin Fang. The aforementioned formula is too warming, similar to Shenshi's use of dried ginger alone for Yin-Yang Exchange Disease; the key lies in appropriate administration.
It is further stated regarding Yin-Yang Exchange Disease: It occurs when yin and yang mutually affect each other, and its toxic qi attaches to the person, akin to an exchange. If a woman infects a man, death is rare; if a man infects a woman, and treatment is delayed even slightly, none of ten will survive. Furthermore, if a woman infects a man, or if a man suffers spontaneous sexual exhaustion relapse, the woman does not get sick; if a man infects a woman, or if a woman suffers spontaneous sexual exhaustion relapse, the man may also get sick, but the condition is milder. Wealthy families know of this matter, but young people often disregard caution, leading to untreatable cases. Rural folk, ignorant and obscure, only know that Shanghan (Cold Damage) can kill; thus, three or four out of ten deaths are due to this disease, unaware of the cause, which is deeply lamentable. It is advisable to take powder made from burnt fingernails and toenails. Moxibustion can be applied to the Qugu point (CV2) located centrally on the transverse bone above the pubic hairline, 100 moxa cones. If the testicles retract and do not descend, moxibustion can be applied to the Dacun points (LR1) (located at the tip of the big toe, about the width of a leek leaf from the nail corner), using small moxa cones, 7 cones per point. (The powder of burnt nails was mentioned previously.)
