一看两眼,眼白上有血丝,腹内必有瘀血,血丝多则瘀血多,血丝少则瘀血少,两眼活动有神采的易治,眼神呆滞的难治;
二看指甲,用我的手指按压其指甲,松开手指后立即恢复血色者易治,过一会儿才恢复血色者难治,呈紫黑色者不可治;
三看阳物(阴茎),不缩回者可治,缩回者不可治;
四看脚趾甲,红润活络者易治,色黄者难治,判断方法与看指甲相同;
According to *Yizong Jinjian* (Golden Mirror of Medicine), there are ten types of untreatable conditions: First, injury from a fall or blow penetrating into the Lung; Second, penetrating injury inside the shoulder and behind the ear; Third, internal injury in the left axilla; Fourth, rupture of the intestine; Fifth, internal injury in the lower abdomen; Sixth, damage to the external genitalia; Seventh, crushing fracture of the left thigh in the elderly; Eighth, cases with numerous and complex symptoms; Ninth, exhaustion of blood; Tenth, pulse that is weak and condition that is severe.
*Kefa Lianggui* (Good Rules for Practice) states: If the Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is deficient and timid, while pathogenic factors are abundant and flourishing, and the ulceration spreads upward, death is inevitable; if it does not ulcerate but the complexion is dark, death is also inevitable. When the hands and feet are diseased and turn black, death is common; however, loss of joints in the hands/feet or bones in the thighs does not necessarily lead to death. Therefore, for injuries where bones are broken and tendons severed but skin remains connected, the damaged tissue should be promptly excised; if muscle is damaged and about to detach but still connected, it should also be excised. Otherwise, ulceration will spread to healthy flesh, and frail individuals often prove incurable. If a finger or toe loses one segment, it is not fatal and can be treated; however, if half a segment is lost while the other half remains, or if bone is broken with tendons and skin still connected, it is extremely difficult to treat.
Chen's *Jueyi Mifa* (Secret Methods for Resolving Doubts) states: A wound on the vertex (Baihui area) where the skull is fractured but has not sunk inward is treatable; if the bone has sunk inward, it is untreatable. Injury to the cranial bones in hard areas is treatable, but injury in soft areas such as the temporal region (Taiyang acupoint) and suture lines is untreatable. If the skull sinks inward but the condition is not severe, it is treatable; if the fontanelle protrudes, death is certain. Bilateral eye injury is treatable; injury to the nasal bridge (Shangen) is treatable, but a broken nose is fatal. Internal injury behind the ear is untreatable. If Qi escapes and cannot be retained, and the eyes are open, it is untreatable; if the eyes are closed, it is treatable. Injury to the trachea is fatal. Complete rupture of the esophagus is untreatable, but incomplete rupture is treatable. Injury to both breasts in men can be treated with prompt first aid; severe injury to both breasts in women leads to inevitable ulceration and is untreatable. Chest swelling and redness turning blue, without involving the heart, is treatable; if redness involves the heart, it is untreatable. Yellow fluid, black fluid, or blood discharging from chest and abdominal wounds results in only one out of ten recoveries. If the area directly over the heart turns cyanotic, death occurs in seven days; if, after three days of medical treatment, the color turns yellow, rescue is possible; if it does not change, death is certain. Injury sustained after a full meal can be saved if the patient survives three days. Injury to both hypochondriac regions with blood entering the five Zang organs is difficult to treat. Eviscerated intestines that are odorless are treatable; those with odor are fatal. Intestines that are not ruptured are treatable; ruptured ones are untreatable. Eviscerated intestines that are purple-black are untreatable; those with unchanged color can be cured with urgent treatment. Fracture of the spine (Jiaji area) is untreatable. Severe lumbar injury causing distortion and involuntary laughter is untreatable; mild injury with laughter is treatable. Lower abdominal injury with vomiting of feces and fixed gaze is untreatable; mild injury with fixed gaze absent, even with vomiting of feces, is harmless and treatable. Pregnancy injury to the lower abdomen that disturbs the fetus is untreatable. Lumbar injury in pregnancy causes fetal expulsion and is incurable. Injury to the lower abdomen is untreatable regardless of gender. An intact scrotum with testes present is salvageable; if the testes are injured and sink into the lower abdomen, it is untreatable. Ruptured scrotum with suspended testes is treatable; crushed testes are untreatable. Fracture of the coccyx (Weiliu) is untreatable. Fracture of the radius and ulna in both hands is untreatable. Fracture of the tibia and fibula in both legs is difficult to treat. A pulse that is large and slow, or four beats per respiration or fewer, indicates an untreatable condition. Presence of a pulse at the Yuji area suggests salvageability. Injuries to various bones by iron instruments that discharge yellow fluid internally after five days are untreatable. For falls, trauma, and tetanus, if the head and eyes are cyanotic/black, sweat on the forehead does not flow, eyes are small and staring, and body sweats like oil, this is called "Si Ni" (Four Reversals) and is untreatable.
According to the secret manuscript of Zhao Chuying, there are five verification methods for symptoms, which can serve as a guide for beginners, so they are appended here:
First, observe the two eyes: blood vessels visible on the sclera indicate intra-abdominal blood stasis; more vessels mean more stasis, fewer vessels mean less stasis. Active eyes with spirit are easy to treat; dull eyes are difficult.
Second, observe the fingernails: press the nail with your finger; if blood color returns immediately upon release, it is easy to treat; if return is delayed, it is difficult; purple-black color is untreatable.
Third, observe the penis: if it does not retract, it is treatable; if it retracts, it is untreatable.
Fourth, observe the toenails: reddish and lively nails are easy to treat; yellow nails are difficult. The judgment method is the same as for fingernails.
Fifth, observe the soles of the feet: reddish and lively soles are easy to treat; yellow soles are difficult.
*Yizong Jinjian* states: Injury to the Tianchuang acupoint, as well as the corner of the eyebrows, back of the head, pulsating vessels in the arms, inner thigh/groin, upper and lower breasts, Jiwei point below the heart, and the Shu points of the six Fu organs are all fatal. Death also occurs if marrow flows from the back of the head accompanied by inability to speak, fixed gaze, bubbling sounds in the throat, forced salivation, and wild waving of the hands.
The verse says: Metal weapons causing injuries leading to dizziness and bruising around the eyes primarily indicate death, making rescue impossible. If panting and hiccups/choking are observed, check if the outcome manifests within seven days.
