Treating consumptive diseases (Xu Lao, 虚劳) and other conditions, long-term administration yields significant efficacy.

This formula is the supreme medicine for regulating and tonifying the Spleen and Stomach. The indications listed under this formula are not specifically designed for consumptive disease. However, in consumptive disease, the Spleen and Stomach are of utmost importance. If there is poor appetite and frequent diarrhea, using methods to tonify the Spleen is appropriate, provided one avoids the harm of excessive Yang flourishing! Commentary: Mr. Jiayan discussed the formula Shen Shu Gao (Ginseng and Atractylodes Paste), stating that among medicines for treating consumptive disease, none are more effective and rapid than this. However, consumptive diseases belonging to Qi deficiency and Yang deficiency types are extremely rare.
