Treats *Chuan Shi Lao Zhai* (Transmitted Corpse Consumption, a severe form of tuberculosis or wasting disease).
**Tan Gan** (Civet Cat Liver, one whole, roasted until dry)
Pounded into powder, taken with water, two *qian* per dose, three times daily, until recovery.
This is an insect-killing formula. *Zi Ting Fang* states: *Chuan Shi Lao Zhai* must involve parasites; one should fumigate the patient's hand with **Ruxiang** (Frankincense), cover it with silk, and after a long time, hair-like worms will emerge, indicating consumption disease. Another method: if the patient coughs incessantly after inhaling smoke from **Anxi Xiang** (Benzoin Resin), it belongs to *Chuan Shi*; if not coughing, it does not. This is because prolonged accumulation of heat in deficiency-consumption generates evil parasites that devour the internal organs. Like branches from the same tree, they easily infect others, even wiping out entire families. The treatment method should tonify deficiency to restore primal energy and kill parasites to eradicate the root. If the parasites are killed, even if the patient cannot survive, the transmission can be cut off. In *Jin Gui Yao Lue*, following the section on deficiency-consumption, the formula **Tan Gan San** (Civet Liver Powder) is attached; could this be without profound meaning? Others such as **Tan Zhua** (Civet Claw), **Xionghuang** (Realgar), **Taoren** (Peach Seed), **Leiwang** (Holotrichia Beetle Larva), **Qinghao** (Sweet Wormwood), and **Baibu** (Stemona Root) are all herbs for killing parasites in consumption diseases and must be studied. Mr. Liu says: Whenever young men or women do not smile, or widowers/widows, monks, and nuns suffer from emotional depression, stagnation leads to heat steaming, which over time generates parasites. These parasites invade the internal organs and bone marrow, making treatment difficult. At the onset of this condition, one should only soothe emotions, maintain tranquility and rest, internally take formulas that disperse stagnant heat, such as **Xiaoyao San** (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), to prevent internal steaming. Externally, crush peach and willow shoots with fresh mugwort heads, mix with **Shexiang** (Musk) and **Xionghuang** (Realgar) powder, warm them, and rub along the spine and limb joints to prevent the harm of parasite generation. Further, decoct **Baibu** (Stemona Root, one *jin*) and fresh mugwort leaves (four *liang*), surround the area tightly to exclude wind, place a basin of charcoal fire in the center, then bathe, washing face morning and night. Burn **Yushu Dan** (Jade Pivot Pill) in the bedroom; inhaling this aroma can kill parasites. Following this regimen offers a slim chance of success! Those close to patients with this disease should not go hungry; those who are deficient should take tonic medicines. Keeping **Anxi Xiang** (Benzoin Resin) and **Shexiang** (Musk) ready prevents invasion by parasites and malevolent spirits.
Greatly tonifies True Yin and strengthens Kidney Yang, secures essence, fills marrow, strengthens bones and tendons; at a hundred years old, one can marry a young wife; this is the premier formula in the human world.
**Shengdi Huang** (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, eight *liang*), **Yurou** (Corni Fructus, six *liang*), **Tusizi** (Cuscutae Semen, six *liang*), **Gouqi Zi** (Lycii Fructus, six *liang*), **Niuxi** (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, six *liang*), **Duzhong** (Eucommiae Cortex, six *liang*), **Shanyao** (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, six *liang*),
**Guishen** (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, six *liang*), **Guzhi** (Drynariae Rhizoma, six *liang*), **Bajirou** (Morindae Officinalis Radix, six *liang*), **Roucongrong** (Cistanches Herba, eight *liang*), **Lianxu** (Nelumbinis Stamen, six *liang*), **Fupenzi** (Rubiae Fructus, six *liang*), **Shabiji Li** (Astragali Complanati Semen, eight *liang*), **Lu Jiao Jiao** (Colla Cornus Cervi, one *jin*), **Wu Yuan Jiao** (Testudinis et Chelonis Plastrum Colla, one *jin*), **Hu Gu Jiao** (Pantherae Os Colla, one *jin*), **Biao Jiao** (Notostagi Bladder Colla, one *jin*), **Zhu Jingsui** (Porcine Medulla Spinalis, one *jin*),
Yellow beef (eight *jin*, boiled into paste), fine mutton (one *jin*), black dog meat (eight *jin*), **Ziheche** (Placenta Hominis, ten units), Donkey penis (four strips), Dog penis, **Xiong Can E** (Bombyx Batryticatus, eight *liang*).
Thirty-two ingredients in total. Make pills from the various collas and medullas the size of paulownia seeds. Take four to five *qian* on an empty stomach with light salt water, or when hungry with aged wine, followed by good food to settle the medicine.
For obese individuals, reduce **Shengdi Huang** (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) by eight *liang*. For **Gouqi Zi** (Lycii Fructus), **Tusizi** (Cuscutae Semen), **Niuxi** (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), **Guishen** (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and **Pogu Zhi** (Cibotii Rhizoma) [originally Pogu Zhi was four *liang* in the original formula], use eight *liang* each. Still add **Renshen** (Ginseng Radix), **Lianxu** (Nelumbinis Stamen), **Fupenzi** (Rubiae Fructus), **Jili** (Tribuli Fructus). Then add **Cangzhu** (Atractylodis Rhizoma, eight *liang* each), **Chenxiang** (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), and **Sharen** (Amomi Fructus, four *liang* each). The subsequent Deer and Turtle collas remain the same. *Yi Lei You Qing Wan* (Pill of Different Kinds with Sentient Qualities) uses only the latter twelve ingredients, adding tender **Lurong** (Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum, one pair), sheep internal and external kidneys (one *jin*, dried), dog internal and external kidneys (one *jin*, dried), and **Muli** (Ostreae Concha, half *jin*). All are mixed with **Biao Jiao** (Notostagi Bladder Colla) and made into pills using the various collas. The two penises are omitted; **Mijiao Shuang** (Moschus Antler Frost) can substitute. This differs slightly from ancient formulas. This formula primarily fiercely tonifies the Kidney, while assisting with regulating the Five Viscera. The Classics state: The Kidney governs hibernation and is the foundation of sealing and storing, the residence of essence. It is the storehouse of True Yin, the root of pre-heaven existence, and the root of life and nature. Therefore, the essence of the Kidney is precious in its ability to seal and store. However, essence is also transformed from the Viscera; the Kidney merely receives and stores it! Thus, when the Five Viscera are harmonious, essence naturally increases daily; when the Kidney is tonified, its sealing function is competent. As stated: When essence is full, Qi is abundant; when Qi is abundant, Spirit is complete; when Spirit is complete, the body is healthy; when the body is healthy, there is no disease, allowing for longevity and prolific offspring. Any man in middle age feeling declining Yang and thin essence may take this. Although there are thirty-two ingredients, they are all of similar sentient nature, with no mixed or impure items, much like General Han Xin’s army—the more, the better! Those whose Ministerial Fire moves easily, or those with Yin deficiency and internal heat, must absolutely not take this; doing so will cause other diseases.
Note: This formula is not set for treating consumption but is attached later because human deficiency often stems from desire. For those with deficiency and hyperactive fire, there are already formulas like **Baoyin Liuwei** (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill preserving Yin) and **Zuigui Wan** (Left Restoring Pill) for rescue. For those with deficiency and declining fire, though rare, this formula should not be unprepared. Others like **Bawei Yougui Wan** (Eight-Ingredient Right Restoring Pill) can be selected as appropriate. Only taking this without cause and indulging in lust is inadvisable. If taken for erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, thin and cold essence, or infertility due to lack of heirs, it causes no harm and brings great benefit. It is moistening without being drying, warming without being hot. Compared to sexual arts formulas consisting entirely of pungent, hot, and domineering agents, the difference is vast.
