I observe that children before age ten have not broken their Yin and possess pure Yang Qi; thus, they can undergo smallpox without medicine, or unfortunately die, all due to fetal heat taking advantage of the season to unleash toxicity. Recently, smallpox is rare in rural areas; adults who suffer from damaged Qi and blood contract this disease, their primordial Yuan Qi being already deficient, with heat and toxin depressed. How can they successfully form blisters and scab over? I regret not learning this principle earlier, resulting in my only son dying from this illness, leaving me with boundless sorrow. I heard an ancient physician used this formula prophylactically for those unvaccinated/uninfected, with no failures. Now seeing the listed formulas for clearing heat and detoxifying, none is superior. His words are not false.
