This syndrome arises from the exhaustion of Kidney Water, which fails to communicate upward with the Heart, moisten the Liver in the middle, and nourish the Spleen downward. Consequently, the Jade Gate (Jing Guan, referring to the essence gate) becomes unsecured, leading to spermatorrhea without dreams. The treatment principle should be to tonify the Kidney, while slightly assisting with herbs that benefit the Heart, Liver, and Spleen. The prescription is as follows:
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root), one tael; Shan Yu Rou (Cornus Fruit), four qian; Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), five qian; Fu Ling (Poria), three qian; Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood), two qian; Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Radix), three qian; Bai Shao (White Peony Root), three qian; Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed), three qian; Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Fruit), one qian; Sheng Zao Ren (Raw Ziziphus Jujuba Seed), three qian; Bai Jie Zi (Mustard Seed), one qian; Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark), five fen; Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), five fen.
Decoct in water and take orally. One dose will stop the condition; ten doses will prevent recurrence.
The brilliance of this formula lies in its simultaneous tonification of the Five Viscera, facilitating the interaction between the Heart and Kidney. Naturally, the Hun and Po spirits become tranquil, and the essence orifice closes.
Another prescription utilizes Da Zi Yin Bu Shui Wan (Great Nourishing Yin and Replenishing Water Pill):
Da Shu Di Huang (Large Prepared Rehmannia Root), six taels; Chao Shan Yao (Stir-fried Dioscorea Rhizome), three taels; Sha Shen (Glehnia or Adenophora Root), three taels; Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood), three taels; Chao Zao Ren (Stir-fried Ziziphus Jujuba Seed), three taels; Ji Li (Tribulus Fruit), three taels; Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber), three taels; Lian Xu (Lotus Stamen), two taels; E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), three taels; Mu Li (Oyster Shell), four taels; Dan Shen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root), two taels; Bai Gui Ban (Old Tortoise Plastron), four taels; Tu Si Zi (Cuscuta Seed), two taels; Yuan Zhi Rou (Polygala Root Flesh), one and a half qian; Gan Cao (Licorice Root), six qian; Gui Yuan Rou (Longan Aril), one hundred and twenty pieces.
Bake until dry, grind into fine powder, and form pills with refined honey, sized like wutong seeds. [Take thirty pills daily, delivered with rice drink.]
Yet another prescription:
Yu Biao (Fish Swim Bladder), one tael, crushed and stir-fried with Ge Fen (Clam Powder); Sha Yuan Ji Li (Astragalus Complanatus Fruit washed with wine and stir-fried); Quan Dang Gui (Whole Angelica Sinensis Radix), each four taels; Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root), three taels; Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berry), three taels. Grind into powder, form pills with honey. [Take two or three qian per dose, delivered with yellow wine.]
In Cold Jue Syndrome, the hands and feet are necessarily cyanotic, drinking water leads to vomiting, abdominal pain is inevitable, and there is a preference for warming with hot compresses.
If it is Heat Jue Syndrome, although the hands and feet are cold, they are not cyanotic; drinking water does not cause vomiting; applying heat causes abdominal pain. This distinction must not be overlooked.
Sudden reversal coldness of the hands and feet, with unbearable pain, is often mistaken by people as Wind Syndrome of the limbs and extremities. In reality, it is due to intense heat steaming within the Heart, unable to vent outward, resulting in cold extremities while the skin of the chest and abdomen feels hot as fire. The prescription is as follows:
Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), three qian; Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Radix), two qian; Jing Jie (Schizonepeta Spike), one qian; Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), two qian; Chao Zhi Zi (Stir-fried Gardenia Fruit), two qian; Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), one qian; Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), one qian.
Decoct in water and take orally. Two doses lead to recovery.
[Generally, Jue Syndromes are mostly Fire diseases; severe Jue implies severe Heat. Therefore, by soothing the internal heat, the hands and feet naturally become warm. The subtlety of this formula lies in using Chai Hu as the Sovereign herb. Various cooling herbs enter directly into the Heart and Liver without stagnating in the chest and diaphragm. Since Chai Hu can disperse pathogens in the Shaoyang (half-exterior, half-interior) level and is adept at superficially dispelling stagnant Qi, it treats the Heart and Chest specifically rather than the limbs and extremities directly.]
Another prescription:
Bai Shao (White Peony Root), one tael; Chao Zhi Zi (Stir-fried Gardenia Fruit), three qian; Chen Pi (Citrus Reticulata Peel), one qian; Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), one qian; Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthes Root), two qian.
Decoct in water and take orally.
This formula uses Bai Shao as the Sovereign herb, taking advantage of its entry into the Liver channel to pacify Wood (Liver).
