Although Jue syndrome (Jue Zheng, a condition characterized by cold limbs and loss of consciousness) is mostly caused by fire, there are also non-fire Jue cases, which result from direct invasion of the Yin meridians by cold pathogens. When Yin-cold directly enters the Kidney palace, it inevitably carries Kidney water to attack the Fire of the Heart Monarch. If large hot-natured medicines are not urgently used to rescue the Heart Monarch, critical danger and death will occur in an instant.
Prescription:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 qian), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 1 qian), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
In cases of apparent death Jue where the patient is unconscious, or wind-stroke resulting in aphasia, or sudden collapse due to evil qi invasion, these diseases are caused by evil qi attacking and phlegm confusing the Heart orifices. Strange diseases often originate from phlegm; there is no need for panic. Treating the phlegm will lead to spontaneous recovery of the disease. However, "wherever evil gathers, Qi must be deficient." By adding tonifying Qi herbs to phlegm-resolving medicines, the pathogen can be removed as swiftly as sweeping, and the seemingly dead may regain life. Although both involve evil qi invasion, there is a distinction between Yang evil and Yin evil.
This case belongs to Phlegm Jue. Prescription:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 3 qian), Nan Xing (Arisaematis Cum Bile, 3 qian), Bai Jie Zi (Sinapis Semen, 1 qian), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 5 fen).
Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, one piece, crushed for juice). Decoct with half water and half wine, and take orally.
Another prescription for Corpse Jue (Si Jue):
Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 3 liang). Decoct with water and administer via gavage; vomiting will necessarily occur, and upon vomiting, the patient will recover immediately. This is because Cang Zhu is a Yang medicine that excels at dispelling wind, thus yielding miraculous effects. It is even more effective when used for cases involving visions of ghosts and spirits.
This case belongs to Qi deficiency. Prescription:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 5 qian), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 5 fen), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Note: Not recorded in *Fang Lun* or *Nan Ke*, supplemented according to "Methods for Treating Apparent Death" in *Shi Shi Mi Lu*. This formula is a variation of Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with Gan Cao removed and Shi Chang Pu added.
Some people suddenly suffer from Jue, closing their eyes and letting go of their hands, with sounds in the throat. Some die within one day, others within two or three days. This type of Jue often disturbs the Spirit (Shen Ming), but it also occurs due to pre-existing phlegm-qi.
Treatment should focus on attacking phlegm and opening the Heart orifices. Use Qi Mi Tang (Revive the Confused Decoction):
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 5 qian), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 2 qian), Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen, 1 liang), Fu Shen (Poria cum Radice, 3 qian), Zao Jia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina, 1 qian), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen).
Decoct with water and take orally.
